Hi,
I have been contacted for having a geocaching demonstration at the Boy Scout Winteree event again this year. Their goal is to encourage Cub Scouts to become Boy Scouts.
No experience necessary 🙂
Event is Saturday Feb 6th, 2010 from 8:30am until 11:30am or noon.
(generally only extremely bad weather cancels it)
Helpers should be there by 8.
Location: Badger Prairie Park, Verona, WI
N 42 59.906 W 089 30.819 is a good reference point to get to the park.Dress for being outside the entire time, bring your own non-alcoholic beverages. This is also a canned food drive for the scouts, so you may bring a donation if you desire, though it is not required for helpers.
We would hide several caches a couple weeks prior to the event.
I would like to do the hides on Jan 23rd weather permitting. There is a cache in the park you can do during the hiding or before/after the event.
During the event, groups of the scouts rotate through various events. At our station we would explain geocaching, show them some examples of cache containers and then go out in small groups to find the ones we hid.
In past years it has been very cold, and sometimes snowy, so be prepared for that. The more GPSr units and volunteers we can get the better they can get an idea what geocaching is about. We should have about a dozen GPSr units that are being loaned to the event, but good to bring your own that you are familiar with, and to show the other options available to the scouts.
This isn’t a full fledged teaching event, it is just to show the scouts, leaders, and families what geocaching is. No experience required, just an ability to show someone how to hunt for (and hopefully find ;)) a geocache.
Please contact me if you have questions about or would like to assist with this event. (this is NOT a GC event cache)

Mike01/16/2010 at 2:09 am #1920299I was told you are looking for help with the scouts. I would have been more than willing to help but that is the day we have our pinewood derby and My son is going to win so I have to be there. LOL
01/27/2010 at 2:22 pm #1920300Hiding temp caches for the event is scheduled for Sunday Feb 28th 9am.
You don’t need to have any affiliation with scouts to help out. Parents frequently come with the kids, so it is helpful to have cachers stay at the table to talk to the parents about caching as well as having cachers to take the kids on a quick hunt (less then 15min) during that rotation.
Enter the park from the South East by the County PB, E Verona Ave, Hwy 18/151 junction.
01/27/2010 at 5:37 pm #1920301Mike is it this Sunday January 31st at 9:00 am? If it is I will be there.

I looked at the bottom of the calendars in outlook, forgot it shows me next month as well. But still should have realized when I said Feb 28th that it was after the event… 😕
