I went on a bike ride today while the sun made its brief appearance. I checked out Cedar Creek. This was only the second time I have seen water over Cedar Creek Road at that location north of Cedarburg in Ozaukee County. How about the rest of you? How high is the water running in your area? Do you have photos to share?

05/23/2004 at 10:03 pm #1746823I just got back from a ride around the Fox river in Kenosha County. Many homes and at least 1 cache that I know of are standing in a couple feet of water. Silver Lake is flooding across across the road at the south end. I pray that our friends Bob & Pat of Team Cashing Out are on high ground. (Give us a holler, will ya?)
“For The Fox River Near New Munster…The Latest Stage Is 13.47 Feet At 10 AM Sunday. Bankfull Stage Is 9.0 Feet And Flood Stage Is 10.0 Feet. The River Should Reach A Record Crest Of 14.5 Feet At 7 PM Monday. The River Should Then Remain Steady Through At Least 1 AM Wednesday.”
On another note, the windsurfers are having a hayday of it. There were at least 30 out on Silver Lake.
05/24/2004 at 12:12 am #1746824Thanks for the concern Russ. We have been “river rats” here in Silver Lake, along the Fox, for the past 14 years. We have only once seen the river this high in all that time, back in 91. As of today the water level is at that same height, but it is still rising and expected to continue for a couple more days. With more rain in the forecast, the situation will probably get worse. Residents just a short distance up and down river from us are already underwater, but we are safely high and dry as of now. I have estimated we have about 2 to 2.5 ft. of elevation yet before the water reaches our foundation, and another 18 inches for it to get inside the house. Flood forecasts only have the water cresting another 1.5 feet higher that it is now, so it looks like we have plenty of room for error. (Now if I can only get Pat’s confidence as high.) Besides I already had my disaster for the month. Returning home from the campout Sat. nite I hit a deer on Hwy 10. Actually the deer hit me, but he didn’t stay around to file the police report. Luckily it only caused minor damage ($1200 worth) to the car, and I was able to drive home. I also figure I’ve gotten a free heart check as a bonus. I’ve temporarly disabled my Silver Fox cache, as it seems to be submerged. Thanks for the heads up Russ. Here’s a few pics of around the neighborhood.

05/24/2004 at 12:20 am #1746825The water isn’t as bad in Green Bay, but the NWS has warned boaters to stay off of the river. Swift current because they’ve got the dams wide open from Appleton on down.
As for us, our basement flooded yesterday. Sump pump went POOF… ARGH!!! Thank goodness it happened while we were home and were able to catch it before too much damage was done!
Hang in there Wisconsin… Summer is coming!
05/24/2004 at 2:34 am #1746826We cached today, and EVERYTHING was like walking on a sponge. Anything that had water near it was problematic. More than one time, we found ourselves wondering whether the cache had been swept away. Water was roarin’ today through any small river–swollen up the banks.
Sauk Creek in Port Washington reminded us of some rapids from our Grand Canyon rafting adventure of last summer!
Hope we didn’t lose too many caches this weekend! Hope everyone is dry.
05/24/2004 at 12:27 pm #1746827Holy cow!!! We have flooded fields around here, and the ground is really squishy. And for the first time ever, we had a little bit of water in our basement. (Didn’t even have any in the flood of 93!) But what we have is a piece of cake compared to some of those photos!
But I did get to see a tornado yesterday evening! Unfortunately, I didn’t have the presence of mind to get out my camera. Only the second I’ve seen in my lifetime. Which is sort of funny considering my mom used to take me out looking for tornados when I was a kid, lol. (“Come on honey! The tornado sirens are going off! Let’s get outside!!!”)

05/24/2004 at 2:39 pm #1746828We are fortunate to be on rather high ground. The rain has saturated our lawn and really dampened our spirits, but like the high water, this is only temporary. Our hearts go out to those who are suffering losses due to the weather.

Not sure if I’ve got it figured out yet as to how to post photos, but the water is slowly approaching my home. I can see the Bark River from my back yard — and the lawn is quite soggy. Anyone who has been to Bark River Cache knows what a pretty walk that it — right now it would be a nice rafting adventure!!
