What’s the accepted practice on event hosts logging attends for their own events? Held our first event last week (an intro to caching type thing) and don’t know what most cachers do. Can see pros and cons either way, and different practices for different types of events.
08/03/2009 at 3:17 am #1911691The hosts already get a Smiley on the “caches owned” side of your smiley list
08/03/2009 at 3:27 am #1911692You atteneded did you not? All my events I attended so I log it as such. There was a log book and a GC#. That’s all ya need. I don’t log my hides, but an event is not a hide. So I see no problem logging the a atteneded. If some don’t like well, they can play the game as they see fit.
08/03/2009 at 12:05 pm #1911693Every event we’ve been at, the owners have logged. I know I’d log it. Attending an event that you “own” puts you on even footing with everyone else there–they all came and shared the same experience. It’s different than “finding” a regular cache that you own, because there you are not on even footing–you have the advantage of knowing where it is.
But ultimately, do what you want, no one else should care and if they do, 😛 .
On the Left Side of the Road...08/03/2009 at 12:08 pm #1911694Logging an attend at an event you host is normal accepted practice in the game.
08/03/2009 at 12:57 pm #1911695We haven’t hosted an event, but if we did you can bet we would log an attended log. We were there, so we attended.
08/03/2009 at 1:44 pm #1911696We’ve logged ours. We figure we did the legwork and then came and had fun along with everyone else. We don’t “find” our own caches or log temps, but this is one concession we make to the “numbers” game. For the number of events most of us host in our caching lifetime, it is a small number anyway. For us so far, that’s four smileys.
This is just a game and outside these forums or the gs forums, no one really cares anyway.
08/03/2009 at 8:13 pm #1911697We logged an “Attended” log for our Event. We were the first ones there and the last ones to leave. Trading a smiley for the hours it takes to plan an Event is pretty cheap. We need a few 1/1 smileys! 😀

Yeah, I think this is how about 98% of us view it. In the end, play the game the way ya want.

08/06/2009 at 2:00 am #1911699Thanks for all the input here. Made the decision to post an “Attended” log.
Figured we ate cookies and swapped stories just like all the others. 😉
