Since our son works today, dinner is later and I’m between prep tasks. I think many folks here enjoy stats and such. We like those, and also enjoy lots of the challenges out there. We used to add them to our profile page, but haven’t done so in some time. Part of it is because we received a couple public handslaps in a cache log for “bragging” in our cache log. Since this stuff is for our own amusement anyway, and I didn’t feel we’d bragged in those cases, I didn’t want to put that stuff out there anymore. Trekkin’ feels differently, but doesn’t know how to do html. 😆

I don’t see it as bragging if others want to share their stats, personal accomplishments and so forth, but apparently there are some who do. So we’ve just left our Delorme map and our D/T grid in place and stopped with milestone and challenge listings.

What’s the opinion of the rest of the community?

P.S. Trekkin’ still gets dinner, even if most agree with me, so don’t hold back! 🙄

What ever floats your boat. I still list my milestones every 100 caches. Might trim them back to every 500 if I ever get out in earnest again.

I must be missing something. I clicked on your profile and also on the state/county stats at the left of the home page. Your list is no different than others (in general stat terms not specific stats, of course). Basic columns of numbers, a graphic, a few cache names… I don’t get how it is bragging. Statistics speak for themselves.

As for logs, I randomly chose ten logs to read. If anything, you have been humble–almost didn’t find this one, tricky hide, GPSr fading so will return another time. And every one I read was substantive. It spoke of your experience (weather, environment, hard to find), made a joke or told a story, and thanked the owner for placing the cache. And hey, if it is a milestone find, why not say so? A cache owner could be proud that you made that cache a milestone. We celebrate other milestones in life, what’s wrong with a simple statement in a log? Noting your accomplishments does not diminish the achievements of others.

I like to track, and display stats, because I enjoy them. (emphasis on the “I”)

I LOVE to see other FTF logs, milestones, maps. It;s is one of the great parts of the hobby that i can enjoy, while chained to a desk, or stuck inside during a snow storm.

Anyone who tells someone else that they can’t be proud of their accomplishments, or how to track them is a plain fool. Especially in your case. You guys have always been humble, and your logs are a joy to read.

      Bragging? Really? Sour grapes.
I have my stats posted for my own amusement and for anyone that cares to look. If someone doesn’t want to see them, they have a choice to make; Keep looking or hit the back button.

I haven’t read them all, but I’ve read quite a few T&B logs. I haven’t seen any that I would consider bragging. Don’t change your style to please one misguided cacher.

Who is it? Post their name. We’ll publicly shame them into retracting their statement. 😆

Stats are OK. Other than how many finds we have, we don’t keep track. Haven’t figured out how to put them on our cache page anyway. Some people’s stats are very detailed, and those are sometimes hard to make sense of, but I don’t mind reading them. It’s who they are and what they want to share.

Bragging in cache logs? What’s a bunch of Whooooooo-hoooooos and FTF!s and this is find # such and such? You’re happy you made the find. Bragging would be more of a nya nya I found it and you didn’t. I’m at find gazillion and you’re at a measly negative 300! or whatever. No big deal. Share what you want to share. Pay no attention to someone’s posted stats if you don’t care about them. Just go out and find and/or place caches.

At first I updated my stat quite frequently but now it is about once a month. I still like looking at other peoples stats, especially the milestones. The milestones give me good ideas for future caches. I feel that stats posted on your profile isn’t bragging because it requires people to click on your profile to see your stats. It was their choice to view them. In the end do what what makes you happy.

Bragging in logs, I have to say that I have not found yours to braggart. In fact I would say that some of your cache logs have inspired us to be better cachers, you certainly inspired us on the DeLorme and counties challenges, and then on to the well rounded cacher challenge. Being like T&B is a pretty good thing to aspire to be

I don’t see anything wrong with posting stats, Gwynn. If somebody else has a problem with it, that’s exactly it, it’s their problem. They don’t have to look at them or analyze them or anything else. It’s there for your enjoyment and anyone else who wants to look. I don’t see it as tooting one’s horn, but if one wants to toot it, why not? One should be proud of accomplishments.

I’m afraid of heights and I’m excited every fall after I clean out my gutters. Not only because they’re clean (lol), but because I overcame my fear to accomplish it. No big deal to anyone else, but it is to me.

I love stats and the numbers and graphs and pictures and postcards and all that. Post more, I love looking at the peoples profiles that find my caches and seeing all there stuff.

      #1926494

We enjoy looking at stats others post, too. It’s just fun, and really, everyone of us has our own unique style of caching, so one can’t compare anyway. In some ways, the stats posted are a window into their style, too. Some post D/T charts, others the cache a day calendar, some the FTF list. That’s a little glimpse for the rest of the community to see.

We’re not changing anything, other than our current goal to spend a little less time caching and spending more time on other things we enjoy…..I just got sick of trying to fit stuff in on the profile page. And we’re fully aware that the comments of one individual are just that. Thanks for the feedback.

I wanted to pull the map some time back, because that was one of our listed milestones, but Trekkin’ wants it to stay.

Yes, he got dinner. And the back end of the lamb cake, as always (more frosting there) 😉

Load ’em up and light a match! Put them all out there, those that slap are just jealous, its for you anyway not them. Delete keys are easy to use…

Hope it wasn’t me, don’t want to lose a smiley over that but I’ve been known to dumber things.

ps – Did trekkin get a TV Dinner? 😛

Trekkin’ got real dinner, Mike. No, no one here is the offending (or is that “offensive?) party.

Trekkin’ wants all this information on the profile page and I’m just too lazy to do all that. My time is better served posting in the forums or similar activity choices! LOL

      #1926497

If it wasn’t about the numbers no one would log finds. We would all just find them for fun and move on to the next one. No bragging with friends, no socializing; just a bunch of hermit geocachers.

P.S. our daughter’s family OPPS5 found #1000 today, not bragging – just stating a fact.
