Just kinda curious, how soon do you log your caches? I don’t typically log with my phone in the field because I am far too loquacious for that. BTW, that’s fancy-talk for “I talk too much”. 😉 But I usually save my logging for at home on my computer where I can type much faster. I’ve been procrastinating and am few weeks behind. I can’t believe how much I forget in even just a few weeks! But sometimes I get logs that are over a year old!
So just for fun….how current are you on your logging?

01/29/2017 at 7:40 pm #2053452Typically we try to log the same evening or following morning after a caching trip. However, it took a week to log Mr. Evil and my last cache together. He went with some others a week later and logged the one we got the previous week while logging those. We only log caches from the phone when we are first to find or when it’s an incidental find when we are traveling.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

01/29/2017 at 8:28 pm #2053454I like to log the same day, even on a power run. This is especially true if there’s an issue that a CO should address on one of their caches, then they have the option to deal with it the same day.

01/29/2017 at 8:54 pm #2053457I am guilty of being behind!! I do save all finds on my “saved list”. A wonderful part of the c:geo app for Android. I also have a note book that I write notes and the location of the hide for logging later. Right now I am a little over 20 finds behind, but I was on staycation this weekend and didn’t want to use my precious time logging my finds. I hope to have them entered by mid-week. There were 2 that I did log as missing or needs maintenance while I was there incase I get side tracked this week.

01/30/2017 at 8:15 am #2053467I don’t like logging from my phone either, but usually try and get to it within a day or two.

01/30/2017 at 6:52 pm #2053473I only log with phone if I don’t have my GPS or cache is not on the gps. I log when I get home and hate going more than a day.

01/31/2017 at 9:39 am #2053488For FTF’s I log immediately at the gz from my phone as a courtesy to others who may be considering making a special effort/trip to claim a FTF.
I log my finds that same night as I like to type pithy notes from memory which are specific to each cache, such as “be careful descending this tree as it will streak your butt with green stains”. I write something unique for each cache out of respect for the CO’s effort in placing it, and have avoided cut and paste method for the most part (except for a couple of power trail runs in late November to hit a year end goal).
01/31/2017 at 1:54 pm #2053494We always log the same day whenever possible. As a matter of fact, we have a separate (cheap) little laptop that we take with us exclusively when traveling. It has no secure info on it all, just geocaching and gmail just so we can log caches the same day. The only time we ever log from the phone is if we’re dropping a TB in a cache in a high caching area where it could potentially get retrieved before we log it. So many times people will take a log a TB as soon as they get it and then drop it later in they. They hit the “Grab it from somewhere else” function instead of waiting a couple of days in case someone dropped it just ahead of them and logs it that night or the next day. We actually dropped a TB and tried to log it in the hotel about three hours later and someone had already grabbed it and dropped it again. It lost a bunch of mileage it would have gotten.
01/31/2017 at 2:51 pm #2053496I try to log the same day if possible. If not, hopefully the next day. On my rare days with many logs to submit, I may only be able to do a couple a day. I have been as much as a month behind, but typically I can get them done the same week.
01/31/2017 at 5:52 pm #2053497I generally log my finds the same day. I log almost all my finds from home on the computer, but sometimes I’ll log from the phone if I use it to find a cache. I also log from the phone for FTFs … most of the time. I am a couple weeks behind on my meeting minutes for my role as Secretary of the Friends of Mead Wildlife Area. 😉

03/13/2017 at 10:42 am #2054309Another thought along the lines of my previous comment. . .The sooner you log after attempting a cache, especially if there is a maintenance issue, the sooner other cachers will know so they can decide based on that if the want to attempt it or not.

07/17/2017 at 9:15 am #2055696Now with the Mary Hyde Treasure Map souvenirs, you have to get your logs in by 7 on Monday morning for the previous week. I know there are a few cachers who are notorious for waiting until after that to log their weekend caches. Remember that what you do effects others and not just yourself right now.

07/17/2017 at 6:12 pm #2055704After reading my e-mail again, I found I was mistaken in the logging deadline that I mentioned. It turns out you have until Wednesday to log your previous week’s finds. More info here: https://www.geocaching.com/blog/2017/07/you-have-1-new-message-in-a-bottle/
