Looks like creating polls isn’t possible on the new site, so I’ll just ask…..how are you most likely to access the various places you like to visit for geocaching news? This can include the gc site, any state site like the WGA site here, facebook pages and the like.
I don’t have a mobile device. We have one cellphone, but it’s the old school kind and it’s pretty much Trekkin’s. No data plan. So I visit while sitting on my computer. For this reason, I like to have fewer sites to check so I’m not sitting on my couch for a long time. I am just guessing, but I wonder if the folks who have a handy dandy data device in their pocket like a greater variety of sites since they can check whenever they want with a swipe of the screen?
Discuss amongst yourselves.

02/20/2015 at 2:53 pm #2035975We still haven’t gone with smartphones, either, although we use a Verizon device for internet. It’s handy for travel and we use it a lot with our tablets and iPod. Although we are on FB, we don’t pay much attention to the geocaching pages there. To answer your question, we get the most use out of this site and geocaching.com for our caching info. Our main devices are the trusty laptop and our tablets.
02/21/2015 at 1:45 pm #2036010I use my computer exclusively. I do have a friend who caches exclusively with her iPhone and she is quite thorough with it to the point where we have vastly different caching styles. My idea of caching is you have a general vicinity where you want to cache. You go there…pull up the list of caches on GPS…use it to route to the nearest GZ and then read through logs/look at the hint etc only if I’m stuck and then log everything at a liesurely pace when I get home.
Her idea of caching is to sit in a coffee shop and do doctoral type research on which caches you want to go after and how you want to approach them. Before she even gets to GZ she’s consulted several different maps….including aerial photography. She’s read the hint….she’s read all of the logs…she’s looked at all of the pictures that people have posted etc etc and then she’ll stand around in the woods for 10 minutes each crafting and posting elaborate log entrys that include pictures and so forth.
02/24/2015 at 6:48 pm #2036190I use both the computer and my phone. I have found the phone to be very helpful when I need to look at a picture on the cache page since pics are not loaded in the gps. I much prefer to use the gps to find a cache rather than the phone caching app. Or there have been occasions when for some reason or other logs or hints won’t show up on my gps – then once again it is the phone to the rescue!!
02/27/2015 at 11:59 am #2036376I never use my iPhone to access the WGA site. I do that from home on my computer (pretty much every day). Same thing goes for most geocaching-related websites. However, for finding caches, I’ll often use my smartphone to check out the cache pages, which has led to many satellite views, FTF’s, and additional info that can’t be seen on my Garmin over the years.

Biggest thorn in my side is trying to access the WGA mobile phone site for BOD stuff from my phone. I can’t get into the Admin things that way but don’t worry, I find a way to get done what needs done.
