I would have to agree that it often depends on how badly you want to log the cache. I had one today that I spent way to long on looking for a small container where there was no place to conceal it. Sometimes you can just be off you game and can’t see a 55 gallon drum in the middle of a football field, other times you can locate a cache the size of a mouse dropping in a field of clover. (a bit extreme? 😉 maybe).
Again, when it is no longer fun, it may be time to move on to the next cache. just My2¢

Now that I’m not too tired, I’d like to expand on this a bit. The variables that make the hunt stop being fun are:

Actually, I can sometimes ignore 3 and 4 for a while if I’m really motivated and I haven’t gotten to the point of number 1 yet. Number 2 can’t really be ignored, but I may return after the issue is resolved.
