26 New Jersey 4582Interesting to compare the number of caches to the state size and population. You would think that on an average, the larger population would generate a corresponding number of cachers.
Well, maybe it does. I should specify the number of cachers who place caches.
MA had a million more population than WI, but a lot less space. Half the number of caches. ?? Where are all the skirt lifters?
And TN, the perennial oddball. Population a little over 6 million, but high on the number of caches. Lots of urban micros, especially in Nashville, I understand. Perhaps we should designate a WI city as “LPC City” and plant accordingly?
UT. Ranks 34th in population, but high on caches. I wonder if the LDS officially sanctions Caching as a hobby?
WI is doing okay for itself. Ranks 20th in population, but 13th in caches. Not too far behind NY, with 4 times the population.
GA, the largest land state East of the Mississippi, but low on the number of caches. Too many rednecks?
06/21/2008 at 3:17 am #1891013Careful about what you say about the Utes — the state vegetable is Jell-O…Green Jell-O. Fear THAT!
06/21/2008 at 4:54 am #1891014I used Jeremy’s numbers and did some more slicing and dicing. Sorry it’s not formatted better, but I can’t figure out how to post a table.
Excluding the small New England states, California still tops the list of cache density. Wisconsin comes in at number 20.State Caches/Sq. Mile

Caches per Person Per Square Mile seems to favor bigger states with low population density.
You’re left to decide what any of this means, but keep in mind that the percentage of cachers may vary from state to state which kind of changes everything.
