How many of the WGA Events will you be attending this year?  And do you plan to work at each of them to make them a sucess?

I’ll be to every event as it is a responsibility of the BOD to be there as our by-laws state but the best laid plans sometimes get upset. Family situations can crop up, work responsibilities rear their heads.

Last year even though my daughter had a soccer game in Milwaukee, I made the drive to Gov Thompson for the picnic and then took off a little early to go home and load up for the afternoon game at Good Hope Rd.

I am planning on going to all of them. Before I accepted the nomination to run for the board we had a family meeting. In the past this would have been no issue but now with little miss TN Elliphant being only 15 months old I needed to make sure someone would be able to watch her while I am out eventing and doing my part. She is not old enough to volunteer yet but in the future we should have a little helper.

I am happy to work the events to make them a success. Some people like finding, some people hiding, and I like eventing (and hiding a couple caches here and there but don’t tell anyone. up to 863. ssshhh).

Good question Zuma because attendance, planning and running the WGA events is critical role all BOD members need to fully participate in.  Work and family obligations do come up but I have always tried to plan ahead to avoid that.  The campout weekend is already on my calendar.  I have a room reserved for Saturday night in West Bend so I can again lead the Geo 101 presentation on Saturday and be part of the pancake breakfast on Sunday.  As soon as we have the date for the picnic,  it too will be on the calendar.  It is already my goal to be the 100%.

Over the past 2 years since I’ve been on the Board I’ve attended most of the events.  I missed last year’s Lonely Cache Game event because my kids were sick and my husband had been in a car accident and wasn’t much a caregiver at the time.  But I attended our other events and enjoyed spending time working at them.  It’s important for Board members to know that Board members are expected to work at these events, although there’s often at least a little time for fun as well.  Sometimes I attend these events with my family and sometimes I come alone, usually I at least bring my daughter.  I’ve trained my kids that we help at these events, just like with other activities we are involved in (like our church, 4H, etc.) and they’ve pitched in to help too.  I do put WGA events as a very high priority, but there may be just a few family things that could top this.  If I would have to miss these events I would at least help out with the planning, which is the majority of the effort anyway.  I have to say, even though it is “work” helping out at our events, I usually have a great time.  It isn’t the worst thing to have to stay around the group areas to help and chat with our members.  I’ve made some great friends and had some really interesting conversations.

If elected to the Board my plan is to attend all of the events, after all that is one of the requirements according to the by-laws.  In the event of a conflict due to work or family obligations I will do my best to be at the event.  I already know that the weekend of the spring campout is the weekend we arranged to set our camper up for the season and I have already addressed that issue. And of course I will do what is necessary to make the event successful.
