So I create a PQ, get it to GSAK, then open it in cachemate, create a file for the Palm (Zire) and hotsynch it.

“Number of logs to export” in cachemate is set to “No limit,” but I never get more than 5 logs.

    Is this a PQ limitation?

Is there any way to get more prior logs in the query, or to the cachemate database?

When you get a PQ, it contains the five most recent logs, plus any logs by you, so it is sort of a PQ limitation. The trick is to not delete your database and load your new queries into the same database.

For example, I have a database called Rochester in which I load a PQ of the 500 caches closest to my home. I get these weekly. Each query has a different set of logs, and GSAK retains all of them as more are loaded. The catch is that after you load you need to go through the database and manually mark caches not loaded as either archived or disabled (or still ok). You could eliminate part of this work by including disabled caches in your PQ, but I like to get the maximum number of active caches.

There is a macro which will just delete all caches not loaded during the most recent PQ, but I prefer to keep the disabled and active caches and only get rid of the archived ones.

There is also a macro that will go to site and get all the missing logs, but this is a bit slow, as you might expect, and really isn’t designed to add logs to more than just a few caches.

Generally, 5 logs is more than enough.

I have had 3 instances in the past year where that was not true though, on caches that I really wanted to get for one reason or another. So, there are rare times more logs are helpful.

Here is my solution: My phone has web access, and I have the gc.com homepage listed on the favorites of the phone, and just search by gc number and then I able to get all the logs on the fly. In all 3 cases, I was able to make the find with the help of the extra info. I dont do this very often, but when ya have a cache ya just gotta find, every extra scrap of info can be a plus.

there’s a macro for gsak called refreshallgpx takes about 9 seconds per cache in your current filter. this will get the 20 most recent logs

I’ll look into those macros. Generally a few prior logs are fine just to know if it’s been found or not but sometimes there’s a nugget or two a ways back that can be quite helpful when you’re stuck. Either that or we gotta get true wireless.

This game can actually get expensive if you let it! (As I left Sam’s club yesterday with $60 worth of lithum batteries…)

    Bumping this…

I discovered by accident that if you choose the “download to GPX” option from the cache page itself, it brings back about 20 logs into GSAK. Don’t know why, and it’s not real practical for large groups, but just FYI.

Related to this–is there a way to reverse-bookmark from GSAK? So that if I have a set of caches in a database, I can easily make a bookmark list out of them?

Yes. Try looking here. I believe this version will push the “Create Bookmark” button for you. (The old version I have requires you to push the button each time.)

Thanks; I had found that one but I was hoping to find one that didn’t require me to click through each cache (this version still does). It’s probably a gc.com TOS limitation. But, it beats opening each cache individually from w/in GSAK.
