I would like to make a map of a Boy Scout camp that I have walked and have all of the tracks in my GPSr. My question is how to convert this into a usable map that can be handed out to visitors in 8.5×11 format. I know lots of things need to be marked like building and names, car roads, walking trails, lake frontage, beaches and other other items of interest. I would like to be able to go as far as water pumps. A topo would be nice, but I do not know if it is available for the Castle Rock Lake area. Any suggestions on where to start would be great. Free or low cost is even better. Tracks currently are in Garmin 60cx.

Also if this can be done, and anyone has more tracks of EBSR, I would like to be able to merge them in to make a more complete map.

If you send me your info, I can run it on my Topo Program for you. Then I can print it out scan it, and send it back to you. I can also try to to an aireal photo too…maybe? I’m sure there are a lot more people who might be able to help ya better than I can, but I’ll give it a try.

You might want to try this program:

    USA Photomaps

It allows you to upload tracks & waypoints from your GPSR (Garmin included) and plot them onto USGS topo maps as well as black-and-white really old aerial photos.

The interface is kind of klunky, but it does seem to work OK.

On yeah, it is also free.

That’s the program I also use. Takes a while to figure out how to use it, but once ya do, it’s pretty cool.

Thank you for the replies. I have USA Photomaps and will try that. I have not used it for much more than printing maps. I wonder can it put on custom icons like building, and label it with text?

I don’t think you can put any custom icons on it, at least not when I have worked with it.

Once you had the map with tracks made with USA Photomaps, simply save it as a .jpg and then you can use any photo editing software to add symbols and place names.
