Notice – Last Friday as I was bushwacking my way back onto the trail at The Hills of Rome cache, I came across a hunter loading his rifle. I sorta startled him – and him – me!
Anyway, time to wear red orange!. Also, here is a link to hunting and trapping seasons in Wisconsin.

09/23/2003 at 9:33 pm #1735893Although I was unable to find a season listed for cats, it is good to know that Otter season starts in December.
09/27/2003 at 3:54 pm #1735894Well now, here is an idea. It would great to provide a plastic laminate card with hunting seasons and other relevant information that a geocacher would find useful. I’m a spontaneous cacher so it’d be nice to have a handy reference about hunting seasons right in the car or truck. Anyone have the where-with-all to do this???

Pheasant hunting season opens this Saturday, Oct 18th, at Noon.
You can expect to see hundreds of hunters at just about every public hunting ground in the Southern part of the state. If you plan to be caching at any property open to hunting, I would definately recommend wearing an article of blaze orange. Better yet, I would completely avoid these areas this weekend.
BTW, pheasant hunters usually concentrate on large grassy fields, hedge rows, tree lines between fields, and marshes. If you in the middle of the forest, you probably won’t bump into any pheasant hunters. You may however run into some bow hunters or grouse hunters.
“There are two kinds of hunting: ordinary hunting and grouse hunting.”
