Great, color satellite pictures. I see details in my yard and my house.

04/05/2005 at 6:58 pm #1748741Lol, I live in the unzoom-able (is that a word?) part of the state.
04/05/2005 at 7:01 pm #1748742thanks for sharing!
This is the first street MAP I’ve seen that actually shows my street on it (out in the sticks, dead in by the big lake). The SATELLITE image is actually current, shows a berm I put in about 2 years ago. Unfortunatley the areas where most my caches are is not imaged at very high quality (can only pull the slider about half-way up before it says no data at that level).
04/05/2005 at 7:06 pm #1748743I am just trying to figure out what that white frothy stuff is in the lower left corner….

That’s a discharge plume from Jeff’s processing of M&M Seven Layer Salad … he’s gone commercial with it now!

Industrial discharge is a requirement for a good M&M salad.
But its ice on Pewaukee Lake … really.
04/06/2005 at 12:38 am #1748746Actually it looks like what I saw growing on the sandwich I pulled out from under my son’s bed awhile back….
04/07/2005 at 3:51 am #1748747I’ve been using google maps for a month or so now and even though it’s still in beta I’d have to say it blows away all other online maps. It’s fast, no ads (yet), allows pan via mouse drag, and combines it’s search engine with maps (try typing “thai milwaukee” to see where the Thai restaurants are, or “wifi wauwatosa” to see wifi hotspots.) Give it a try if you haven’t already.

Thanks for pointing out two very cool features. I scrolled before but didn’t use mouse drag until I read your post. Also, easily finding wifi hotspots — terrific!
04/07/2005 at 4:40 pm #1748749How did you save the pic from off the site to post?

On most sites, right click on a picture and save the image. On maps.google, you have to “screen scrape”.
To do this, hit the PrintScrn button (to the left of scroll lock). That copies what is on your screen to the paste buffer. Using a program like MS Paint, paste into the program and edit and trim the picture to taste.
Save the image to a file (like ‘house.jpg’).
Now you must have a server host your picture. You could use the WGA photo album or a site like http://www.photobucket.com (my preference). Once you upload the picture, it gives you the magic UBB text to paste into a WGA board message (
).
Thats the the quick summary.
Be careful how you use pictures or other resources from the web. Under the ‘fair use policy’, personal or educational use is generally not a problem. Commercial use (such as putting it on a merchandised T-shirt) is a problem.
Also be aware that the legal issues are not all settled. Some people believe that I’m a criminal for what I’ve typed in this message. At the other extreme, some people believe that “if its on my computer, I own it”.
I gotta go, someone’s banging on my door.

04/08/2005 at 2:02 am #1748751Ahhh, ok. Thanks. I tried to right click and didn’t get anywhere with that. I’ll have to try to edit it on my camera software- I don’t have paint
04/09/2005 at 5:12 am #1748752cool! Only downside is that the images are a bit dated. Should offer clues of where to look though.
Not sure if its worth $30/year yet though.
