I was out this morning setting up a Christmas cache with the geo-trio. I had to get my old trusty blue etex out as my other is in the shop. We hiked in, placed the cache, walked around a bit and walked back to the car. I set my old friend on top of my truck, took the snow shoes off, and my coat. I got the trio loaded up and pulled out. Got about a 1/2 mile down the road and stared looking for Old Blue as He was not on the dash. I check my vest pockets and coat pockets. Turn around and start searching the highway as I head back to where I was parked. About half way there I spot him. I stop, run up to him and pick him up. The window is gone and the is a few cracks on the side. I shake him a bit and there is a rattle. Not good I think. I press the power button but nothing. He’s gone. Idiot! Idiot!! Idiot!!!! 😳 πŸ˜• πŸ˜• 😯 😯 😑 😑

Old blue was my first GPSr. Almost got divorced for buying him. Had him for about 2 1/2 years before I put him in semi-retirement.

    ****BIG SIGH****

Good bye Old Blue. You searved my well. May you rest in pieces. πŸ˜₯ πŸ˜₯ πŸ˜₯

I sure hope Garmin sends my other one back SOON!!!

You should turn him into a travel bug.

Sorry to hear of the tragic demise of your old “friend.” My own “Old Blue” almost met the same end while caching with Uncle_Fun, his two sons, and Green & Gold at The Tapps and AuntieNae’s CITO event in Waukesha this last spring.

We started to drive off when I realized my GPSr was not in my hands. It was sitting on the hood of Dave’s truck. Oh s—-!!

After I rescued Old Blue from the situation, we started driving off again. Just then, we hear Dave’s youngest screaming and running along the side of the truck.

Oops!! I had this feeling we forgot something but just couldn’t put my finger on it. I’m sure we would have realized we were one man short eventually……Then again???

you could use an ammo can as the casket..

just dont bury it if it’s actually a cache!

    Dearest Cheezehead,

I am SO sorry for your loss. I, too, started with old Blue – and that Blue matches the colour of my eyes. Frankly, I prefer the direction of Old Blue and the ease of manually loading it for a quickie on the road. another interesting fact on Old Blue’s is : we did a coord vs. gps accuracy test at a Mutsley and Crew Unofficial Event. Everyone at the party had to load the same set of coords, then walk out into the football field and plant a flag where GZ was. It was really interesting, because old ble put you at the same spot as the 60CSX units. the gray unit was 25 feet to the east, and it was totally consistent with all the units. I had blue and the 60csx to do the test.

My old blue was inadvertentley injured at another Mutsley and Crew Event when the table got bumped and Old Blue took several dives onto the concrete. Now I have to spank Old Blue to get a rise out of it. Hmmm, have I just discovered the secret to GPS Viagra!!! :-O !!
