I really have to hand it to my daughter.

My family has been dealing with some serious health problems for about 7 months now. Just when we thought it was getting close to being behind us, we got another reality check. We will be spending this next week at the “American Family Children’s Hospital.” My wife and I felt pretty low for a few days last week, until a ray of sunshine in the form of my 11 year old daughter has effectively gave the entire family a method to look beyond our youngest’s impending surgery.

She has decided to make blankets and give them to the other children in staying in the hospital. In less than a weeks time she has received enough donations for her to make 10 blankets. Which was her original goal.

Such a simple idea has given life to the entire family as a method to cope with all the heartache that we have endured over the last half year.

WOW is that a wonderful story! It sounds like she is turning out to be a great little person. Doesn’t it make you feel so proud when they do things like this? You did well 🙂

I hope everything goes okay. My family definitely knows what it’s like. Someday we can swap stories…

Hemi, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. I know what it is like to face medical challenges, and you’ve certainly had your share of these challenges. Your 11 yo seems to have found a positive way to deal with difficult circumstance. I think that it is evidence of great parenting! Hang in there. We are all hoping for the best possible outcome from this most recent medical challenge.

That is a very great story. It is tough when kids have health issues, as it effects the entire family, parents as well as siblings. It sounds like your family has found positive ways to deal wtih the difficult challenge of signifacant health issues in the family.

Thank You all for the kind words. She truly is an amazing young lady to come up with such a plan and to see it all move forward into a reality. She already has 6 blankets made, and is only slowed down because of this thing they call School.

On another note, our little patient just went into surgery and should be there for all of the morning. Patiently waiting and drinking lots of coffee.

A while back I posted ha my daughter was making blankets for the kids in the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison. Here are the fruits of her labor at this point. This is her among the 65 blankets that she has raised the money and purchased the fleece and spent countless hours to make.

Does she want to make more at a slower pace? I could pick up some fleece for her as I noticed it on sale at Walmart. What size does she like?
I could bring it to the campout if you guys will be there.

She usually uses two 1 1/2 yard pieces of fleece to make one blanket. Sometimes there are kits that are sized just right also. We however will not be at the campout due to other commitments. We can try to figure out some other arrangements if needed.
