Now, I don’t get all worked up about every little milestone, but I try and save the 500’s for something special. I wasn’t paying attention to my numbers, went out caching with my daughter, and passed up 3,000 without realizing it. Aw man! So my milestone was wasted on your average cache in the woods. Don’t get me wrong, it was a nice day and it felt wonderful to be outside in just a fleece and not my heavy winter coat, so hindered by thermals I can hardly move. But still, I usually go for some cool EarthCache or some interesting extra-effort-type cache. Oh well, I guess I’ll just be content with the nice walk in the woods with my daughter and our pup.
Anyone else do this?

02/24/2016 at 8:39 am #2047210For the last few months we have been trying to come up with some epic cache for #10,000. When we look at different choices it’s more about celebrating the day than one particular cache. There are so many good ones to make a memory whether it involves a walk in the woods or the admiration of someone’s unique creation. Instead we have chosen to spend the day this weekend with friends finding a handful of caches, maybe some lunch and just having a good time. Nothing epic, just a good memory.

02/25/2016 at 6:46 am #2047230One time Gram and I were getting close to one of our #100 levels. That coincided with a vacation trip to an all inclusive resort in Mexico. We figured we’d take a boat out to Cozumel (island), rent a car, and find a bunch of caches. We did, had a nice lunch in a tropical oceanfront thatched hut, and drove past a few more caches thinking we were over the top. When we got home and started logging caches, I discovered that we had topped out at a x99 level! So the next one ended up being some generic micro someplace… Frustrating at the time, but funny now! cYa, Jim & Chris
02/25/2016 at 1:06 pm #2047239I look at “every cache” as a milestone along the walkway of geocaching! LOL Actually I made a boo-boo when reaching 2000 as I had “double logged a previous cache” which took away the one I really wanted for the 2,000th. This action just made the next milestone grab all the sweeter when I didn’t make the mistake twice!

I lock all of our milestones after we reach them to prevent this.
02/25/2016 at 6:20 pm #2047248I goofed with counting too and 2000 was a DCBQ in a stop sign. 🙁
02/26/2016 at 10:18 am #2047256We’ve always said that milestones are what you make them. Sometimes you make them monumental caches with friends helping you celebrate or having signs ready to hold up in photos of the occasion, sometimes you make them quiet ones in the woods or at special places, and sometimes they pass unnoticed.
If your milestones are out of order and you want to get them the way you want, you can do that on your own GC page through the statistics tab. Find “Milestones”, then scroll down to the milestone that you want to change, then go to the right where it says “actions”, and that will give you a chance to edit and make another cache that milestone. You can also lock or unlock your milestone caches on the list by clicking to make the little padlocks red or green.

Very seldom do we spotlight and cache to make a milestone because we also think that the milestone is what you make it. Sometimes given the right circumstances/company a park & grab can be as memorable as a nice scenic location.
02/28/2016 at 2:01 pm #2047296We found #10,000 today and while the number is significant we always have a big letdown after a milestone find. As we drove home today we reflected on the fact that what that number really meant is how much fun we had 10,000 times. Along the way we saw interesting and scenic places and met great people who we now consider our best friends.
02/28/2016 at 5:28 pm #2047305We are so happy for you both!! We have about 800 caches to go to get just 40% of your total finds. By then, you will be at 15,000 we are sure 🙂
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

02/28/2016 at 9:59 pm #2047321Thanks everyone! And I really did have a fun time with my daughter and our dog. Isn’t this February amazing? It hasn’t been so warm and dry that I’m worried about a drought, but definitely a mild one. I can’t believe how much grass I’m seeing! So many that can be the momentous part of my milestone.

03/01/2016 at 2:44 pm #2047380I haven’t been paying attention to mine, and realized I am close to a minor 00. I do feel a little like I should make it something more special, but I do agree that any cache that is found with great caching buddies, or in a special place, or has a unique component to the cache or the container, that makes it milestone-worthy.
