We’re getting nigh on close to a Major Milestone and I was reviewing the caches people were recommending for natloh when he was approaching an even bigger milestone, because we seem to have similar tastes.
Is this one that would still be fun in late fall/early winter weather? We want to find something we can do within a day’s drive to and from (no overnights). I’d thought at first of doing the Crex Meadows ones to end up at that milestone, but I want to save that series for next spring when the birds come back. Canoe caches are pretty much out of the question right now, or those would be fun. So…Felsenmeer Ridge sounds promising, but if others can suggest caches in remote locations, with some level of terrain challenge—we don’t do scuba 5s!–and possibility of cool wildlife sightings–bring ’em on!
11/20/2007 at 7:33 pm #1881329I’ve done Felsenmeer ridge and would highly recommend it (as well as the Pipestone Quarry and Pipestone Test Pit which were very educational and are accessed from the same parking lot).
The worse part about doing my Crex Meadows series in the springtime are the ticks (which were unusually bad this year) so be prepared for this. The fall is probably the absolute best time for this series. Unfortunately most of our sandhill cranes and other migrants have left the area already. Let me know when you come up here!

That Felsenmeer cache and the other two really sound like they might fit the bill. The pipestone aspect is quite interesting especially to Trekkin’ as a historical re-enactor/researcher of the fur trade era in the Great Lakes.
zuma mentioned it even had x-c ski trails, although I’m not sure I want snow coming as quickly as I think our milestone might! We’ll definitely get in touch when we do Crex, though.

Longfellow’s Challenge GC1494C- this one is down in Iowa somewhere. I understand that there is a little climbing involved? Easy one for a Bird (in’). 😀
Lost Falls GCNMJF- the most fun I’ve ever had caching.
Hemlock Draw GCWDEB- I couldn’t even find this one, and I still loved it.
Europe Bay GC65AB- would allow you guys to get some new Delorme pages.
If you decide on going after Pipestone, let me know, I want to go to. Earthcaches are awesome!!!
