Sometimes the logs for our caches will say how a cache is very close to where someone has lived for a long time (like 20 years), but they never knew the area was even there until they were brought there by caching.
Has this happend to you? Where you find a cache a few miles or so from where you’ve lived for quite a while, but you just never knew that park/trail/structure/cool thing was there?

02/07/2007 at 6:51 am #1769781I have to say that geocaching has brought us to many areas of the State that we otherwise would not have seen, EVER. This is what I believe is the best part of geocaching. Logging the find or the DNF is just a secondary option.
02/07/2007 at 12:16 pm #1769782I agree with Vegas Gamblers about that being the best part of Geocaching. I have explored parts of Appleton I didn’t know existed. Now to get out and see other parts of the state that way.
02/07/2007 at 1:26 pm #1769783Well with me being really new to the area, Geocaching got me to places i probley would never of visited, and thats one of the many reasons why I geocache, because of the places it takes me to… I would never of gone on the other side of the state, if it wasn’t for geocaching, i would never of gone to the Wisconsin Dells, if it wasn’t for geocaching, So its not really hearing someone say oh i knew a person right down the street cuz i really don’t know anyone besides outside my work, and Geocaching community..
02/07/2007 at 2:08 pm #1769784Mrs. OuttaHand and I have commented on that a number of times. We live at the southern tip of the Kettle Moraine. Caching has taken us to a LOT of extraordinary places in the Kettle Moraine that we never knew existed before. We’ve seen beautiful views, historical structures, and have learned about the early days of Wisconsin because of this hobby.
02/07/2007 at 2:56 pm #1769785Same with us. We’ve even found entire towns that we didn’t know about.
02/08/2007 at 12:02 am #1769786Katy, I think that is the magic of geocaching. The unknown factor of where will it take me next. I’ve been to places within miles of my house and now I think about those caches and the ones I haven’t gotten to yet, every time I drive down the road. Great Topic. Carol
02/08/2007 at 3:21 am #1769787I’ve been in Stevens Point for not even two years, and I doubt I’d have otherwise found most of the awesome places that caching has brought me. Kelly and Ashley’s Traven Bug Hotel by stephenandcarol is one favorite spot I know I’d never have found.
This log for one of my favorite hides is what made me think more on this topic.

02/09/2007 at 2:53 am #1769788We’ve discovered a few new trails in the LaCrosse area, and that’s saying something, because as an avid birder, I’m all over there places searching for some elusive bird or the other. In fact, I usually have my binocs hanging around my neck when we go out caching, just in case.
One of our very first caches took us to a lovely bluff climb not far from home that I never knew existed.
