I saw this article come across on one of my many technology newsletters and thought it might be interesting to share with other geocachers, seeing as we are heavily reliant on good clear GPS signals.
Informative read there. It’s nice to see what goes on behind the technology, and what problems pop up that we basic users don’t even think of. Thanks for sharing this article.
I’m going to use this in all my DNF logs … “I would have found it, but LightSquared was interfering with the GPS signal.” 😆
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
LightSquared is trying to make the argument that the interference problem can be solved by putting better filters in GPS equipment, but that would also entail replacing a rather large installed based of GPS receivers. Are they willing to flip the bill for everyone to get a new GPS? I bet not.
I have been reading articles on lightsquared for a while now, due to my profession, and I don’t think this satellite will ever get going which is good for my side of the business. When I read about this I had to chuckle a little inside. It has been fighting to get going for a long time to no avail.
