This isn’t specifically geocaching related, but in years past, I could go through a sequence with my browser and delete tracking cookies. I cannot figure out how to make that happen anymore. Mostly I used Chrome, but occasionally use IE, too. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of them? I get sick of being offered “deals” on website sidebars (like geocaching.com) that are clearly the result of something I looked or searched for at some time.

The internet is getting creepier by the year, I say! 🙄

I think I solved my own problem…maybe. I went to Chrome’s help center, but I think I managed to delete ALL my cookies.

Well, at least that’s better than tossing all your cookies…

You could manually edit the cookies in each web browser on your system, or you could use a software program to do it for you. The IT guys in our company use CCleaner (it’s free) to clear out whatever data needs to be deleted. Here’s a screen shot of it taken from my computer. You could uncheck everything except cookies and it will take care of the rest. It does so much more than that in case you want to tinker a bit more.

Thanks h1of2….what I did before looked more like this. My son has a friend who is an IT guy, and he did tell me in passing that they’ve buried this stuff a lot deeper than it used to be, to make it easier for those trackers to follow you.

Did anyone see Person of Interest the other night? Yes, it’s crazy fiction, but that episode sure had an element of truth for today’s world.
