I’ve read that the new Apple operating system disables Google maps. Does that mean that if I upgrade my iPad I won’t be able to use the maps feature on GC.com? I’m not using the App, just using the website.
I think geocaching.com mobile will still work with ios6. You can download the ios geocaching app. One is free and the other is paid for. Hope i could answer your questions
You misunderstand what they did. Apple changed the native maps app from using Google Maps to some internally developed set of maps. You can still access the maps.google.com website as well as utilize google maps within apps, and I believe there is now a Google Maps app available from the app store.. It is possible that some apps will switch their default over to the Apple maps, but typically you can switch that back in the app’s settings.
The only way is to download the app. You can not use google maps unless you find a way online or a google app.
I just upgraded my phone to the iPhone 5 and the geocaching app is much smoother and faster on the io6 than that on the droid..
I suggest if your using an Apple product switch to Geosphere. It allows for having groups of caches you want to do, bearing and distance calculation, set a specific waypoint for a puzzle cache and do a truly paperless cache, and of course, the usual stuff (download PQs, import and export of gpx files, upload of field notes, browser usage )
I’ll try geosphere the next time I head out caching!
It does take awhile to understand it (a lot of features) If you need help PM me
