With Trekkin’s connections to this area, we’re seeing news posts about the devastation from the storms last night, we’re hoping any of the folks up there are okay. What a mess!
07/12/2016 at 12:14 pm #2050735The Ashland County Emergency management agency has issued a civil emergency message for Ashland County. The message is as follows:
“This is an urgent message from the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office. Travel in Ashland County is not advised. Many local roads between Ashland and Mellen are flooded and most likely have impassible damage. Numerous roads have been closed this morning including U.S. Highway Two, State Highway 13 south of Highbridge to Marengo, County Highway C and many town roads. If you must travel, use caution, Do not travel through moving or standing water. Please report any road damage to the Ashland County Dispatch Center at 715-682-7023.
The Weather Channel also advises that U.S. Highway Two east of Ashland is closed, U.S. Highway 63 is washed out at Matts Road near Grandview. U.S. Highway 2 near Demonie Creek is partially washed out east of Ashland.
According to The Weather Channel, the White River south of Ashland rose seven feet to a new record level early Tuesday, topping the previous record from July of 1953. The Bad River near Odanah rose over 15 feet in six hours, to the third highest level ever, before the automated river level gauge stopped working.

07/12/2016 at 4:57 pm #2050743At least one person has died, details not released yet. Glad to hear you’re okay, Linda. Sounds like Saxon was hit pretty bad. Coast Guard was doing helicopter rescues of people stranded as well.

Ashland County:
• US 2 at Sum Road in Ashland is closed. No official detour posted.
• US 2 is closed east of Odanah at Lake Road. Traffic detoured via US 51, WIS 77, WIS 13, WIS 77, US 63, and US 53.
• US 2 at Denomie Creek near Bad River in Odanah is closed.
• WIS 13 between Mellen and Ashland is closed. Use WIS 77, US 63 and US 53 and US 2 as alternative route.
Bayfield County:
• WIS 137 at Whipperfurth Road in Ashland between Sanborn Avenue and US 2 is now open.
• US 63 at Twentymile Creek near Grand View, north of Drummond is closed. No official detour posted.
• US 63 near Bibon Swamp between Grand View and Mason is closed. No official detour posted.
Iron County:
• US 2 is closed east of Odanah at Lake Road. Traffic detoured via US 51, WIS 77, WIS 13, WIS 77, US 63, and US 53.
• WIS 122 is closed north of US 2 at Parker Creek. No official detour posted.
• WIS 122 is closed approximately 3 miles south of US 2. No official detour is posted.
• WIS 169 is closed between WIS 13 and US 2. No official detour posted.
Sawyer County:
• WIS 27 north of Hayward, off of WIS 77 near Smith Lake is now open.
US Hwy 63 in the city of Hayward is closed, detour is as followed from the south
US Hwy 63 to
State Hwy 27 south to
County Hwy B east to
County Hwy k north to
State Hwy 77 west
