Planning to place a cache on a divided highway such as E. Washington or Whitney Way in Madison. Do I get permission from the city or WisDOT before placing? Or not allowed, period. 😯

So am I picturing it correctly, that one would have to cross one or more lanes of traffic to get to it? Don’t know Madtown that well, so the street references don’t help me.

I would get permission from your mother first. Sounds like a pretty stupid place for a cache. Sorry to sound negative, just my opinion.

Oh Mr. G., my children wanted to know why I was laughing out loud……

kc9fmy – Mr. G is being much more subtle with his response than I was being….

It depends on what part of E. Wash you are planning on placing the cache. There is a cache in Downtown Milwaukee on a median where it is as wide as the road. I think if it is wide enough it wont be a problem. I really don’t see a need to contact anyone before placing it. I think the reviewer would have the final say if it should be allowed.

I almost agree with Mr.G That is a crazy place for a cache. Thats not really save at all. Would you put a cache on 12/18 in Madison I know I wouldnt its kinda like that

Since i live in the area,I say do it.I have one like that but you have to solve a mystery first and it is allowed I believe without permission from both parties. Its public grounds.
Correct me if im wrong.but one of the reviewers should answer this one.

I would agree that it is public property and fair game for placing a cache. Being a cacher that caches with a two year old, I think it would be appropriate to at least mention something about it being a semi-dangerous cache if its in a median of a roadway. I’m all for caches that arent simple or necessarily “safe”, but it would be nice to know what one is getting into before hand and precautions and safety measures can be taken ahead of time.

I looked at the strip again and it appears to be 1.5 lanes wide with several trees & bushes. I would put up some type of warning for the wee ones and perhaps put some kind of micro or small cache so the wee ones would not have any reason to be there. The only other place to put a cache there is between one side of the roadway and a chain link fence which probably requires a request from the property owner. But a lot of muggles would be roaming there. It be a while before I decide to place one either on the strip or on the one side. 🙄 Thanks.

When I put out a cache like that I highly recommend doing it at night and 90% of the cachers that find them usually do just that. Also note that it should not be found during rush hour for obvious reasons.
    Less traffic=less of a problem.

True, I found Down the Middle at 2AM and there was no one around. 😀

Good cachers follows the rules and then dont ruin it for future cachers.
Thanks KFH for being one of the good ones.
Also-for a hide like this a good hint is a great idea.
