Anybody hear anything about “Team Van Go” (TVG)? They have a cache called “Zzyxx Lake Home” (GCFE02) that I reported as trashed on 5/31/04 (both on the cache page and by emailing the owner). No comments from TVG on the listing or via email. Another finder found it still trashed on 6/27/04. TVG’s profile shows last activity as 5/2/04. If TVG has abandoned ship and Admin wants to disabled the cache, I will be happy to go to the site and remove the physical remains. Picture is attached to my log entry showing the condition, the logbook is totally trashed and is just being used by kids to “Trash In” the trees.

06/30/2004 at 9:01 pm #1739888I’ve disabled the cache page until the owner can fix it.
06/30/2004 at 9:20 pm #1739889Thanks for doing that.
If you feel that the owner has left the sport/game … speak up … I’d be happy to dump the non-damaged contents in another cache and toss out the worn out tupperware … I’m guessing I’m one of the closest cachers to this location.06/30/2004 at 10:02 pm #1739890If you feel like repairing it, then by all means go ahead and fix it up. It never hurts to carry spare logbooks, etc. to fixup caches when in need of repair.
Everyone could use a helping hand from time to time :-).
06/30/2004 at 11:28 pm #1739891I don’t want to be a pill, but I sure hope that two months of inactivity won’t be seen as leaving the sport. For me, sometimes real life interferes with geocaching, as much as I’d like it not to. Seems that if you want to repair the cache, as GrouseTales suggested, that that would be a very nice thing to do. If you’re afraid that it is too vulnerable to geomuggles, you could retrieve the pieces so it wouldn’t be litter and let the owner know you have it.
Just my 2 cents. – BnB
07/01/2004 at 2:07 pm #1739892I’m taking the advice and will go out and pick up the pieces and rebuild the cache. Most likely I WILL need to relocate to new coordinates (as close to this spot as seems safe) (will have “admin” update the coords) … not only is this spot muggled over and over and over again … but they have totally kicked apart the stump that the cache was hidden in, its now just a pile of bark with a worn out tupperware under it. The hidding spot is very close to the busiest area of this trail, no ground cover, the stump was it; when I found the thing I saw it from the trail.
I agree that 2 months could just mean a vacation, where you don’t check the GC listing or your email (cause I emailed the owner end of May) … but if you look at the entire log history for this cache, it appears to have been mistreated by mugglers for a long time (finders find it in the wrong place – a shelter nearby – and move it back to the coords, etc.). However, looking at the log history, you NEVER see any comments/logs by the OWNER … there just is nothing to give one the impression that the owner is lurking about.

Even still, if you aren’t even responding to emails, what other conclusion can one come to? Even if I was taking a few months off, if I got an email about one of my caches, I’d at least send off a response saying “Go ahead and let someone take care of it” or “I’ll go pick it up” or “I’m still here, I’ll go fix the cache as soon as I can” or “I’m unable to to anything about it, do whatever you want.”
The Gander Mountain cache was like this, and someone was ready to adopt it, as the owner didn’t seem to be active anymore, when he popped in with a message saying that he’d go out and fix the cache. At least we got a response from him. With no word from Van Go, I’d rightfully assume they’re gone.
07/01/2004 at 4:13 pm #1739894I agree that some people may take a break from caching, and 2 months isn’t too long in my opinion. But like Dave said, at least they should respond to emails if they are active.
Another problem is that people change their email and don’t update their GC.com profile. In that case they may not be receiving email notifications.
In either case, I’m sure they would appreciate someone giving the cache a little T.L.C. I can change the coordinates for you if you decide to make a short move to keep it safe.
07/03/2004 at 10:40 pm #1739895Good News … I’ve moved and replaced the cache … check it out at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=d4226b52-fae3-416c-a134-4f35d7f22841
