Hello. I’m honored to have been considered for a nomination to the WGA board. Since I feel like I don’t get out much to events and met a lot of people, I’ll give a little background about me beyond geocaching.
I have been in the healthcare field for 28 years and as manager under a director for the last seven years. My hobbies have included geocaching, historical reenacting, fire/EMS, camping, and hiking.
I started geocaching in September 2019 after having been introduced to it through another group. I don’t have a lot of years of geocaching experience; however, I do feel that I have had quite the interesting experiences in my geocaching. Due to extensive traveling, I’ve gotten to geocache in 41 states/regions of the US which allowed me a good exposure of the varying kinds of geocaches. My wife and I love to get outdoors camping and visiting interesting places. We really have enjoyed the one-of-a-kind places that geocaching has led us over these few years. We would never have visited them otherwise.
I didn’t start hiding until last year only because I wanted to create unique and fun hides that would stand the test of the weather and time. As of now, I have six hides with two more planned, but 64 favorite points and recently received the WGA Spotlight Cache Fall 2023.
I have also been on the board of directors with other organizations and helped plan and run logistics for medium-scale events (100-250 people). I have worked with a few people in the DNR with the use of controlled burning for land management.
Having grown up on a farm and spent a lot of time outdoors, I feel that it’s very important to build and foster good relationships with the property management officials whether it be state, county, local, tribal, other organizations, or private individuals. Part of fostering good relationships is to be sure geocachers, and people in general, respect our natural resources and use those natural resources responsibly.
I would also like explore more ways to educate the public on geocaching to get people to realize the one can create their own adventure. There are so many different ways the hobby of geocaching can be enjoyed. It’s not just going out into the woods and finding Tupperware. There are the virtual caches that take us to some of the most educational and interesting places in the world. There<!– [if !supportAnnotations]–> are the earth caches that teach us about the land on which we walk and about how it was formed.
Thank you for your consideration.
