There’s an exciting new challenge out there – The JASMER CHALLENGE. I don’t know when it will be officially loaded on geocaching.com’s statistics page, but it is already at mygeocachingprofile.com’s page (mygeocachingprofile.com was bought by Groundspeak two months ago and served as the catalyst for statistics now being shown at geocaching.com).

      According to http://www.mygeocachingprofile.com/default.aspx:

“As Groundspeak works on migrating statistics over to geocaching.com, we’ll still be releasing some new features here on mygeocachingprofile.com. Some of these will eventually be moved to geocaching.com as well!

Our latest additions include a new profile section showing your progress towards the Jasmer Challenge. The Jasmer Challenge asks cachers to find caches that were placed in each month since geocaching began in May 2000. The new grid will help you visualize your progress on this goal.”

I hope it’s loaded soon on geocaching.com’s statistics page. It’s not for everyone but I think it’s a fun diversion to shoot for. Here’s an example from our profile page…

Been working on my Jasmer Challenge lately and hoping to finish up within the next year and also trying to get a Challenge Cache out for this, that way you’ll have a 🙂 once you finish!

There are Jasmer challenges in other states, I think the first one is in California somewhere. We’re close, but not quite there yet.

Zuma told me about this two weeks ago and today I looked, I need nine months, jun 00 to feb 01, then I will have this baby taken care of. Looks like a few road trips ahead.

Trekkin’ will probably get on my case for doing this…he says I’m “too nice, always helping everyone and no one ever helps us, HA!” but putting this bookmark list together took time and it’s helpful for planning those road trips.

All the active 2000 caches in the U.S.

We don’t need too many more. Three are within striking distance when time allows and the weather clears.

Yeah, WI edition. I looked around for which ones I could get once finished and saw nothing for WI. I figured that there had to be people nearby that are close or finished.

A nice roadtrip to see my sister-in-law in Portland should allow me to grab most of the ’00 & ’01 months that I still need. Our family trip to TX this fall should do the rest. 😀

Just poked around and the original is in Northern California, published about two years ago. A Wisconsin version would be a fun addition to the state’s challenges for those of us who enjoy those types of caches. Looking forward to it!

This one looks like fun. I’ll have to dig around to see where we are at. Any reason to travel is a good reason! John – what did you do in your spare time before you and Kim started geocaching?

LOL actually before geocaching we did a lot of walking/hiking, but didn’t have geocaching to complement it. Sometimes we would drive to other neighborhoods, park our car there, and take a long walk. Our last five major vacations (Hawaii, Colorado, S Dakota, Carribean cruise [yes hiking], and Upper Mich) were all hiking vacations. So when we “discovered” geocaching it was a perfect fit! I sure wish I would have known about it sooner. 😕 We did Hawaii 4 months before learning about geocaching. Now we’ll have to go back! Aside from that I have too many minor hobbies to mention (you know about at least one of them – photography), but all of them are less important than spending time with Kim. I fully adhere to the “happy wife, happy life” philosophy!

I’m further than I thought with 117 out of 130…problem being I’m missing all 8 of the year 2000 caches.

                #1943411

I am 120 out of 130. Missing all of 2000 but May of 2000 and Jan, Feb and Dec of 2001

Looks like a lot of out-of-state travel will be required. That will stimulate the economy!

                  #1943413

Only have 7 or 8 left if I remember right, most are from 2000. Maybe this will be a goal for 2012 as we are going to get the D/T grid filled this year.

Looks like it’s time to make a motion for the WGA to fund a roadtrip to Oregon for all of us to pickup ’00 caches! 😯 😆 😈
