Has anyone else noticed the absence of these new bugs in caches?
I ran a 100 mile search from Janesville (which covers the major geocacher area in Wisconsin) and found there are only 5 out there.
I think Brian said there were originally 110 ?
Seems like there should be more in this region. Any thoughts anyone?
As a side note – there are 5 of them located in the same 100 mile search in Illinois but they all appear to be from that state originally)
I am not really hunting for them but with the big yellow jeep icon on our search pages, it made me wonder why I didn’t see more of them.

Every Jeep I placed is being held by someone. I think that may be a pretty common thing to tell the truth. I have three left to place (waiting to get up to the cabin to get them up by the Langlade area)- but the seven I did put out are all in the hands of different people. Their last logs range from June 12-26th.

I’m guessing lots of people want to have some fun with them- maybe for contest entries or whatever. If you look at the “Jeep4x4” profile and look through all 5001 Jeeps, the majority of them are being held by different people with between zero and very few miles on them.

I distributed 80 Jeeps in Wisconsin. I kept track of everyone who received one, along with the tag number for each.

I figured it would be fun to check on them and see where they ended up, and make sure they got started on their journeys.

I can easily see a LOT of the Jeeps coming up missing in the future. I’m sure there will be people who want to collect them as souvenirs, hoard them, and whatever else.

I wish I’d had the chance to drop the other ones I have, but car repairs kept me in Appleton last weekend. With the long weekend coming up, I’m headed to the Bayfield area and plan on getting rid of the rest on my way.

I know what you mean. I just want to find one too. But I know people will want to keep them. I think some people might be confused that the jeeps are for the contest but aren’t.

One of the bugs I placed in the Breakfast cache is still there. One went to Aphrael and is making its way to Texas, one went to the team from Minnesota and is now in a Minnesota cache, and one went to the Brews, who need to log that they now have the bug. (hint hint!)

I made some durable plastic tags for them, so hopefully people will realize that they aren’t trade items and keep them.

I have a couple too. My niece & nephew have been so busy they have not been able to go out geocaching with me since the Jeep day. We have a funeral out of town on Friday that I am trying to convince the folks we can get a few caches on the way and still arrive on time.

I placed one in a cache last night.

We found one recently and have been eager to get it moving along. We’re in the middle of planning a pretty extensive multi-cache with some friends to be placed in about a week and a half and were thinking it’d be great to place it. Originally we wanted to place it locally this past weekend but as live tends to do, our plans were changed

I always hate having TB’s with every intention to place them soon and then it doesn’t happen for a bit longer than you had expected.

I admit to having two right now. Just picked up the second one while caching out of town. We were not able to do a second cache while there so it came back to me.
I’m planning to go out caching with my dad this coming weekend and should be able to drop both of them.
Someone above had part of it right. I wanted to get them home and take some pics to enter in the contest. Kind of sat on it hoping for divine inspiration of some kind to get that one ‘perfect’ picture. I’ve taken a couple pictures now and have had no real ‘divine inspiration’ so I guess it’s time to move them along.
So if anyone’s looking to get one, check the caches around Burlington after the weekend. I think that’s where we’re going.

I have two…one was given to me, the other was picked up at the breakfast. I left for Texas the day after the breakfast and got back late last night. I took the bugs w/ me and took lots of pictures of them at the caches we visited. I will be logging them in and out of all of the caches to get the miles on them, then will be releasing them into two of the four new caches I have planned to place in Southern WI…my hope is that when I place them, flatlanders won’t run up, grab them and take them south…so I will post a message here when I get approval on the lacations so that cheesers can make a run for them. Sorry for the delay folks, but better late than never, eh?

Brian sent us two of them and we placed one in our cache when we started it up three weeks ago. We were going to place the other one there after the initial hype died down but to my amazement two or three other jeeps have stopped by. I am beginning to think we should have called it a Jeep parking lot instead of a bug resort

The one I picked up Monday from Schoen me your Laufen is going to the Wausau area in a couple of weeks. We were going to take it to Minneapolis, but they probably have quite a few over there.

We picked up 1 jeep for ourselves at the Get a Jeep event and promptly placed it in one of our caches. That very day it was gone. Found a second jeep and placed it in our more difficult multi cache, with the hopes of attracting someone to attempt it. Two days later, someone who had already completed it previously, came by and took the jeep. So much for using it as bait. Today I just scored a 3rd jeep from a cache down in Illinois. Should I place it in another of our caches, or just put it up for bid on E-Bay? I think it’s going into my favorite bushwhacking cache….Spiders Web. At least they’ll have to work for it.
