I am very excited to be considered for another term on the WGA BOD!
I have been geocaching since October of 2010. I was working with Scouts with Special Needs (male and female), but the training that I was supposed to take was full. So, I looked to see what other classes were available: Orienteering and Geocaching. I’d always liked reading maps, so Orienteering sounded fun. I didn’t know much about Geocaching, but after the class I was intrigued. The closest cache to my house was in the little country cemetery that I could see from my kitchen window. I have always loved cemeteries…so I was quickly hooked.
I love traveling. Geocaching in other countries and states allows me to see different styles of hides and puzzles, and often I end up at the coolest spots. There’s usually a cache with tons of favorite points at any overlook, monument or natural wonder.
Another favorite for me is solving and putting out puzzle caches. I just love the brain workout and having that “aha” moment. I like to give only little hints on my puzzles and others that I have solved…so that other cachers can have their own “aha” moment! When I first started geocaching, I didn’t attend very many events, but then a few groups started having puzzle solving events, and I loved the camaraderie and knowledge sharing. Now I attend events whenever possible and host them when I travel.
As part of the WGA, I have hidden a cache in the Ice Age Trail (IAT) Series and caches for the 2022 WGA Spring Picnic in Brunet Island State Park. As a member of the WGA Board, I worked on planning the Yellowstone Trail Adventure Lab Series, and placed one segment. I have also worked on the Geocaching 101 display board that is used for events (both within the WGA and at libraries and other facilities that contact us). I like helping teach people, especially kids, about geocaching. The more of us, the merrier!
If elected to the WGA BOD, I plan to continue working on the Geocaching 101 board, adding additional educational components to it. I would also like to continue to work with the state and local parks, cities, other organizations and landowners to make sure that we present geocaching in a positive light and keep the outdoors spaces available to everyone.
Thanks for the opportunity to run!
