Hello fellow cachers!
My name is Justin Korpal, k0rpl on geocaching.com and
wi-geocaching.com. After a couple of years enjoying all aspects of this incredible
sport called Geocaching I have decided to run for a 2008 WGA Board of
Directors Position. For those of you who haven’t heard of me here’s a little about my
self:I am 27 Year old electronics technician, who has been caching since
April of 2006. To this date, I have approximately 1980
finds, 13 hides, co-own several others, and have hosted
3 events.I rarely go a week and even more rarely a weekend without a find, or
going out with others on the hunt. Besides the great exercise, I have
discovered many new trails/parks/nature areas in a city that I have
lived in all of my life. This is one of the biggest benefits I feel that
Geocaching brings to the Community.I have been a active part of several discussions with
Public officials on the benefits of Geocaching. The first
of which was my “Setting the Record Straight” event in the Fox Valley. This event was put on immediately following allegations that Geocachers
had destroyed a Appleton Park. Claims were made that
flowers were dug up, trees were damaged, and flowers
trampled. All claims which could not be proven were geocachers, but
which the event attendee’s stood strong and showed them that the
geocaching community promotes eco-friendly participation. In addition, I have attended 2 Brown County Board Meetings
after a $5.00 per cache levy/per year was put on caches in
Brown County Parks. Due to my help, along with Frizz, Coastiegirl04,
Geopink, Srvive, and many others, we were able to get
this overturned. Now other cachers could place
caches in Brown county parks as previous hiders have, without fee’s.
I am also presently working with the heads of Buildings and Grounds at
UW-Green Bay to get caches back on the UWGB Campus after a recent ban
and removal of caches. Not only have I been active in the political geocaching relations, I do
as much as I can with the gc’ing community to keep the sport active
as well as help with geocaching moral statewide. Besides actively
posting on the WGA forms, I also keep in contact with many gc’rs via email
and instant messenger, always trying to keep spirits up even though it
may not be geocaching related. One event I spearheaded was a “Cachers Rehab” for a good
friend, Frizz(Larry). Larry had broken his leg, and was out
of caching for quite a few months. I setup fake coordinates across the
street from his home and had everyone show up at his house while his
wife had him out. Several dozen gc’rs showed to show support for Larry,
swap caching related injury stories and do a TB/Coin discovery. All
reported having a excellent time and Larry was very surprised and
thankful to do something geocaching related while rehabbing.Outside of geocaching, I have been on a few other board of directors,
including: Vice President of the Nicolet Rifle Range located north of
Green Bay since May of 2006; Secretary, and Newsletter editor for the
Green Bay Mic and Key Amateur Radio Club.My other hobbies include: metallic silhouette handgun shooting,
hunting, working on cars, computers, and anything electrical or
mechanical. I have held an Amateur Radio License
since November of 1994, where I started out as a “No Code”
Technician, and progressed up the ladder to Amateur
Extra Class. I am active in the local ham radio club,
and help out at emergency preparedness events, special
event station events, and help local amateurs with
antenna work and radio repairs. I also enjoy camping
and traveling.I feel that my logical thinking and public speaking experience will be
a great asset for the WGA. I have demonstrated the ability to listen
to both sides of issues and make the best decision based on all the
facts. I look forward to being able to represent the geocaching community
as well as the state of Wisconsin in all geocaching related items and
look forward to helping promote geocaching in our fine state.I feel that with the entire WGA Board working together
towards common goals, we can accomplish everything we set out to do for
members, and non members alike. If you have any questions, Please feel free to contact
me at anytime via PM, or email. (K0RPL-at-Yahoo.com)I would also like to thank those responsible for
nominating me for a 2008 WGA Board of Directors
Position.Justin
