Besides hitting the kilocache number recently, Jeremy also completed the last of Wisconsin’s 72 counties.
And Piwko Kurczak was trailing along….
Congratulations to both of you!
08/01/2006 at 1:28 pm #1764158Now that’s a cool accomplishment! Congrats!
Does that mean you passed the DeLorme challenge as well?

Dave, you are evil! 😈 Here I thought I achieved something special and you go and crush my ego. 😉
So I spent this evening running a My Finds Pocket Query and then doing a manual map comparison to check to see if I passed the DeLorme challenge. Well I failed miserably…
I have two embarrassing “bald spots” in the middle of the northern 1/3rd of the state (maps on pg. 72 and 77 in my edition of the Gazetteer). I am also missing Wisconsin finds on 10 border maps: 57, 58, 70, 82, 92, 97, 98, 99, 102, 104. (I do have Michigan and Minnesota finds on some of these maps, but I’m assuming they don’t count… where are the official rules for this contest anyway. :))
On a postive note (for me anyway), I doubt anyone else has completed the challenge. Page 57 is almost all water (it has just a tiny sliver of land north of Kewaunee)… there is no cache on that page now, and there may not even be a place to hide a cache. There is only 1 cache on page 104 (GCG5V5) which may be gone and even if it is there looks pretty challenging.
08/02/2006 at 3:07 am #1764160Congrats Jeremy!! I think Marc should have reworded the title of this one though….LOL I know….my mind in the wrong place again!! 😆
Pick another state to attempt the Delmore challenge in. I think there are 3 now

A keyword search for “DeLorme Challenge” brings back 20 states.
Illinois (GCREG1) or Minnesota (GCTVMK) seem closest.
I’m going to try for the KS one after I move (GCQ0XH) and then perhaps the MO one too (GCQA2X)

Ken, if this is true why are you wearing The Hat in your avatar picture?
Err… on second thought maybe I should just shut up, agree with you on the “bald is beautiful” thing, and keep my hat firmly in place. 🙂
08/14/2006 at 5:33 am #1764164I guess Jeremy must have too much time on his hands, if he is able to get the Kilocache, and all 72 Wisconsin Counties. That must be why the Website is lacking!!!
Just Kidding Jeremy. The Site is awesome. I Visit it at least twice a day!! Keep up the GREAT Work. I know it can be a thankless Job, so Let me start.
T H A N K Y O U !!!!!!!!!!!

08/14/2006 at 12:50 pm #1764165Congrats on your acomplisments … and thanks for visiting some of mine too! So, you don’t like burning nettle?
08/14/2006 at 1:25 pm #1764166Thanks Ron, it was great hitting the 54 counties I needed during July and cleaning up the 20ish Jeremy needed. The stinging nettles guard the Star Light final pretty well!

I’m currently working on a Wisconsin version to fulfill all your DeLorme Challenge needs…

Cool Dave… let me know if you need any help. If people really get into it, we could start tracking this in a separate category in the State/County/Country stats module on the WGA site. It would also be nice to have some little award people would get if they completed the challenge.
I was also going to scope out a spot for cache on page 57 in the next couple weeks. Hopefully there is some public land in that small sliver that can be used to hide a cache… otherwise no one will ever complete the challenge 😥 (or we’d have to exclude this page).

Looks like a great place for an underwater cache….

Actually, it looks like the Kewaunee pierhead is on that page. I’m sure someone could figure out how to get a cache out there…
