-BA in journalism from Iowa State University.
-Former radio and newspaper reporter, former writer and producer for Collins Avionics in Cedar Rapids, former creative director at Sorgel Studios in Milwaukee, and for the past 15 years a free-lance writer and owner of Rocket Ink.
-Born and spent the first 32 years in Iowa. Lived in Wisconsin for the past 18 years. (Uh oh, did I just give away my age?)Found my first geocache in Feb. 2001. Hid my first cache, Pike Powder Hike, the next month. I helped organize the first Southeast Wisconsin Geocachers Picnic and Hunt, held Aug. 26, 2001. In 2002 was one of the founders of the Wisconsin Geocaching Association. I pushed for having an elected board manage the WGA instead of perpetuating it as a “private” club. I currently serve as president of the WGA. Have been working with the Wisconsin DNR to help write a geocaching policy for state parks. I wish I could report more progress on that front. We’re still waiting to receive a copy of the policy from the State, but we have heard it will closely resememble the policy that we submitted to them.
In addition to the campout and summer picnic, some of my other WGA activities in 2003 included:
-Prepared a presentation and presented it before the Wisconsin Parks and Recreation Association regional meeting in Janesville.
-Spent half a day with the founder and current owners of Rutabaga Paddle Sports in Madison to discuss further involvement with WGA.
-Ongoing discussions with Casanovas Outdoor Adventures to discuss sponsorships.
-Ongoing discussions with the Chippewa Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau about what geocaching is and how their organization could tie in with the WGA to promote tourism, not only in that area but in conjunction with other C&VBs around the state.
-Planning for a geocaching video, which is currently on hold pending decisions from the DNR about park manager involvement in the video.
-Meetings with attorneys in Madison to discuss WGA incorporation, and subsequent email communications to review and revise our bylaws.
-Obtaining park management permission for our events at Devil’s Lake and Hartman Creek.
-Scouting Hartman Creek for the 2004 campout (keep watching for campout registration form coming soon).
-Continuing to encourage grassroots events such as the geo breakfasts and member’s event caches.
-Backup geocaching.com admin approver for approving geocaches in Wisconsin, and lead admin approver for approving caches in Iowa.Other involvements:
-President of the Lakeshore Symphonic Band.
-Member of the Ozaukee Big Band.
-Member of Milwaukee Festival Brass.
-Board of Directors for Advocates of Ozaukee, a domestic abuse shelter.
-Volunteer ski guide for blind and visually impaired skiers through the Lion’s Club B.O.L.D. program.
-American Mensa.
-Sierra Club.
-Working Writers of Milwaukee. -
