Hi, everyone! I’m hoping that a WGA Board Member might be able to help me out on this one.

I work for the Parks Department in my area and we are looking to host a geocaching event sometime in the upcoming months. We don’t have experience with this type of event and also don’t have the needed equipment (what we lack in experience though, we make up for in enthusiasm), so we would love to work with the WGA and make our potential event a WGA Regional Event.

After looking over the policy, I see that with the submitted proposal we would need to list a board member sponsor and the names of other involved WGA members. I just joined WGA myself and don’t have contacts within the group yet– do you have suggestions for how to go about recruiting the help from a board member and other members? Or do I go ahead and submit my proposal without those names listed and then a board member agrees to help?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

It would be good for you to personally attend an Event. Choosing a theme for your gathering, and talking with some cachers that have hosted, will help you along. It’s not neceassary, but you get a better idea of what it entails!
Check out the Events section in the Main Menu. We have an Event in Oshkosh on the 29th, Marc has a Meet ‘n’ Greet in early August, there’s a 101 workshop coming up, etc. Even co-hosting an Event with an experienced cacher(s) is alot of fun.

I’m not sure about the Board Member part, but I’m sure they’ll respond!

      Hi,

Yes, the WGA would love to work with you to develop a regional event. Let us know more about what you have in mind, and I can give you more details.

In the meantime though, I can share with you that there are very many experienced geocachers in the Kenosha area that also may be a good resource. Our nearest Board member is Team Deejay, and he would be a good resource as well and is not far from Kenosha.

Also, while we would be happy to help with any sort of regional event, our focus this year has been on CITO events. I am not saying you are limited to CITO events, because we will support any type of event. It is just that we are trying to hold a number of CITOs around the state, and it would be great to do one in Kenosha as well.

Also, this link should give you an idea of the type of events we have already helped out with. Many of these are in partnership with local people.

If you have any further questions, please ask and either Dave (Team DeeJay) or myself can help you out.

Erin, I live in Kenosha and can lend a hand. I’m in the process of putting together my fifth annual Ice Cream By The Lake event held at Eichleman Park that I’ll be hosting in early September. Your welcome to join us for the event, and as long as your event and mine aren’t too close together, I’m sure I can help with whatever you need for yours.

Feel free to PM me at any time.

      Jay
