Last year my Garmin eTrax Venture began displaying black lines across the screen when I turned it on. Eventually that was all I got. And the unit was out of warranty.
Bought a new one Dec 19th. December 15th, or thereabouts, this year, the new unit began acting the same way.
E-mailed Garmin, and they gave me routing number, and I shipped my GPS to them 12/17.
I received a new unit back from them, via express mail, on 12/26. And they even transferred my waypoints to the new uint!!
I have (had) 6 Garmins so far, and do not see any reason to change, especially after this nice service.

12/27/2004 at 9:15 pm #1748192I’ve been very happy with Garmin myself. I bought a new Legend in May 2004 and it was exausting a new set of batteries rather rapidly. In addition to sending some trouble shooting suggestions (which worked), Garmin sent me a postage paid address to ship my unit back and get a new one.
I was so happy with the customer service, that earlier this month I went and bought a second Garmin.
12/28/2004 at 12:03 am #1748193The problem you had with you screen is notorious to Garmin’s Etrex units. The cause of the fault is a poor connection in a ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the main board. I have repaired a couple of them with good results. If you want instructions, send me an e-mail & I can sent you some info back.
Garmin’s customer service is known to be very good. Last I knew, even out-of-warranty units with problems were being exchanged for $100.
12/28/2004 at 3:46 am #1748194I am glad to hear others had a good experience. I cracked the screen on my 60CS 6 weeks ago. The 1st replacement came two weeks later, saying they transfered the data and it would pick up the satellites .. no deal, deader than a doornail. The 2nd replacement they sent me, although new due to their error on the first replacement, was only a 60C. It took another week for that one to come. FINALLY, 6 weeks later, my new replacement, a 60CS was found on our doorstep this morning, not exactly sure if it arrived this morning or last night since Airborne delivered it without signature.
