KVR – HILO is probably the best cache I’ve ever done that highlights the true original nature of geocaching. A group of 5 of us did this one yesterday and it only had 9 prior finders in 3 years.

It’s definately not easy and will test your endurance, stamina, courage, etc. The terrain varies and includeds mowed grass trails, marshes, stream crossing, bushwacking, cliffs, heavy woods, great views, etc. It definately makes a great multi-cache and a great experience. It tests your ability to think in the woods and plan. I don’t recall any of these being a straight line from one waypoint to the next and it’s almost like a “Choose Your Adventure” story. There are multiple ways to get to each waypoint, but you’re in control of your own destiny.

Definately in the top 5 list of all the caches I’ve done.

I was one of the 5. It was a workout and I had a blast. Would I do it again? Absolutely!
Just incase anyone thinks this is a guys only adventure, the group included 3 guys, an 11 year female and me (female, 11+ years)

Two of the first finders were ladies….myself and mamasplash. It’s one of our favorites as well. We were just down in that area this morning and some places along this hike might be really wet right now. The Kick is dangerously close to jumping its banks, and in some low lying areas….it has.

I was sorry to see the Archive of this very memorable multi. It was the inspiration for our “The Expedition” cache which we placed last winter.

Feel free to eulogize this cache one last time!

I did this one as part of the LCG during deer hunting season. Just beat the snowstorm, and it only took 1 trip! I returned to the highpoint 1 1/2 years later, to share it with family. Half of them even made it to the top!

    RIP, KVR-HILO!

After this group made it, I had wanted to do it also. Now they are just wishes.

This cache was one of the ten we included in our (now archived) “How Hungry Are You” challenge. The Reserve is a beautiful location to hike as it is, and HOT TROT did a great job of highlighting its diversity, taking you on a nice long hike and leaving an ammo can at the end. One of the main reasons we finally archived our challenge was the fact that this cache and some others were starting to have problems for the owners to maintain. At least two others on the list were having similar issues. (Ammo cans disappearing, in fact). We felt that “honoring” those caches by including them in a silly challenge just created a maintenance issue for those cache owners. Retirement also figured into our decision, since the challenge finishers were getting dinner for two on us. We mourn its passing.
