AstroD will be embarking on the 1300+ mile drive around Lake Superior shortly with the intention of hitting our 1000 cache during this trip.
Does anyone know of any “not to be missed” caches around the area that we should be sure to grab?
Thanks!
07/18/2005 at 9:20 pm #1740702We did these 3 caches last fall. gc8c40 gc6fo4 gc6fo5 and all 3 are worth it. The 2 by Yawningdog are very cool places.
07/19/2005 at 4:11 am #1740703I was in Duluth Mn yesterday these two caches were nice but the area was even better and they are within waking distance to each other. GCNY28 & GCNRAQ
If you are going through Bayfield and of course you are stop at this one GCJXCC kinda downtown nothing special but a neat area by the Coast Guard station and a Great view of Madeline Island…Enjoy…
07/19/2005 at 6:02 am #1740704Just got back from a 3200 mile loop around WI and up part of the north shore of Lake Superior. It was 95 in Kenosha and 65 on the lakefront in Duluth so pack accordingly.
One of my highlights was the Skyline Parkway (in Duluth) at night. AWESOME view overlooking the lights of WI & MN. The nearest cache is “Enger Tower” which I recommend, but is closed at night. Also not to be missed on the north shore are Gooseberry Falls State Park and Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. Most excellent places to see!!
07/19/2005 at 6:12 pm #1740705I would agree GCJXCC “Ruth” in Bayfield is in a great area. Also “Year One” GC8C40 is neat because it has lasted so long and you can see meat-eating pitcher plants!
The must see caches are GCG5VM, GCG5VW, GC1246, in Pattison + Amnicon State Parks which have spectacular waterfalls.
You should also cross over to Duluth. If you don’t have the money to visit the Big Apple check out GC89E8 “Mini-Mother of Exiles” for a mini-me version of Lady Liberty.
I thought GCMF9G “Watch this Cache” was a great multi that showed some interesting places in Duluth. Also the final drive is very scenic and the container is really cool.07/19/2005 at 6:43 pm #1740706In Duluth proper… “Down The Rabbit Hole” but be prepared to get wet.
07/20/2005 at 3:57 am #1740707Hey, THANKS for all the suggestions! We’re looking forward to seeing some new areas. We’ll definately add your recommendations to our “must do” cache list. Thanks again!
