We have TIVO at home and it is set to tape any tv show that contains geocaching in the subject matter. So far in 2 years it has recorded one show, it was a DIY family guide to geocaching (the one that originally got us interested in the sport). I now see that it has picked up an episode of Law and Order that is scheduled for May 8th at 8:00pm on NBC.
The show’s description states: “The Unblinking Eye” A young actor is wounded and his fiancee killed, leading detectives to look into a high tech treasure hunting game called geocaching. I have never watched this show but it looks like a CSI type of criminal investigation. I hope it doesn’t show the sport to be dangerous and not the family friendly passtime we all know.

The show takes you from the crime, tothe investigation, and on through the trial. While I too hope our sport stays “clean,” I fear given the type of show it is that this will not be the case. I hope I’m wrong!!!

(Maybe it won’t be anymore if they portray geocachers as mass murders. )
Criminal Intent is more of a “thinking” or “mystery” type show than the original Law & Order… in each episode you have a smart pair of detectives trying to outwit the criminals. I can just imagine what crass comment the detectives will make about geocaching… “bunch of geeks in woods” or something.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up!

04/29/2005 at 5:42 am #1737899I get confused with all the spinoffs. Which one is it? Law & Order: Parking Ticket Checker, Law & Order: School Crossing Guard Unit, or Law & Order: 12 Items or Less Grocery Checkout Line Enforcement Unit?

I think it’s Law And Order: IFP ~ Anyone wanting to know what that stands for can email me.

04/29/2005 at 2:34 pm #1737902I’d be willing to bet this will just be a 15 sec. clip.
-Bombsquad shows up.
-Sees a sticker…explains the game..(says its an internet treasure hunt game) and story moves on.

at least that makes it sound a LITTLE less geeky.

05/08/2005 at 11:56 pm #1737904Just bumping this. I was remembereing that this was coming up soon, so I checked this topic to re-find the name of the show and the time it will be on.
05/09/2005 at 2:22 am #1737905I just finished watching the episode. My overall impression is that it didn’t make geocaching look bad or anything. Is it just me or was the cache in question buried? Maybe it was just heavy leaf cover. I hope people didn’t get the message that caches need to be dug up.
One other note: 30 caches in one park! talk about cache saturation issues!05/09/2005 at 2:43 am #1737906At least the gun wasn’t hidden in the cache…
05/09/2005 at 9:47 pm #1737907In the very beginning of the episode it showed the cacher burying something in the forest. Also, she had a trowel in her bag of “geocaching” tools. ????
