The first annual LCG event was planned and hosted by S|S. The second was done by uws22. Both were great events, but neither was an official WGA event.
I am wondering if it would not be a good idea to make the annual LCG event an official WGA event? Especially since the LCG is a WGA game. The other reason to do it this way, is that frankly we as a organization are sitting on more cash than we need to for a group our size, so need to find things to spend it on that make sense for our members.
Code Junkie, you said you were working on planning the event, and that is much appreciated. I suggested to the board that the WGA underwrite the costs of the event, maybe a hundred dollars or so for door prizes or whatever else is needed, and let you or someone else interested plan it.
How does that idea sound to you folks?

01/11/2011 at 4:35 pm #1941951I e-mailed CJ yesterday but haven’t heard back.
An easy Event to host, since the stats are already in place! Thanks to the WGA BOD for the support, if needed! 😀
01/11/2011 at 5:06 pm #1941952Based on Jim’s email, I’ve shifted gears a bit and will be making a few phone calls today. This coupled with the fact it’s potentially a WGA sponsored event makes the initial venue obsolete. Stay tuned.

Thanks. Keep me posted on potential costs, and we should budget in some money for door prizes.

01/15/2011 at 3:05 pm #1941954Tentative details (pending confirmation with the owners)
Date: 2/12/11
Time: 4 – 6 pm
Location: West End Pizza – Oshkosh
GPS Coords: N 43 59.780 W 88 34.330I will be contacting them today to confirm and hopefully get things published yet this weekend.
01/15/2011 at 5:17 pm #1941955Thanks, CJ. Make sure the event page says that cachers don’t have to be LCG devotees to attend. Maybe some new ones will get exposed and catch the bug at the event!

01/15/2011 at 10:59 pm #1941957After playing and scoring about 300 points in each of the first 2 years we didn’t play this year. There just aren’t that many lonely caches in SE WI. I was surprised to see that we are still in 18th place since the inception of the game. We probably found 300 points worth again this year, but didn’t submit any of them. The event is close enough to us that we may come to meet some of the notables and see friends that we already know. Have not done any caching in Oshkosh yet either so it’s time for a trip that way.

Hmmm… We’re still in the Top 30 @ #28, but we need to work on some more lonelies to to put some distance between us and #29. 😈 TBC
01/16/2011 at 2:22 am #1941959glad I had a good year in 2008 finishing 3rd, 13th in 2009, 28th in 2010 keeps me still in 7th overall. Maybe a few runs this year are in order.

01/16/2011 at 2:35 am #1941960I’m thinking a pre-event excursion to Wet Maze is in order.
01/16/2011 at 4:35 am #1941961Do you want Linda to get the hot chocolate going for after the marsh romp?
Maybe you will have Approved Wet Maze 2 by then! It’s placed and waiting for more inclimate weather! Do you prefer snow or water? 😀

Did you want to publish it as a WGA event? If so, PM me so we can set it up as a WGA owned event. The details you have sound good. As a general rule, the WGA board is willing to underwrite events owned by the WGA, but is less apt to underwrite events that are not WGA events.
thanks

01/16/2011 at 5:23 pm #1941963Any way this event can be bumped a week to the 19th? If not that how about Sunday afternoon. That way it could also be a celebration of the Packers winning the Super Bowl the week earlier.
That is the day of our Pinewood Derby for the Cub Scouts. I would really hate to miss it this year.
Oh well cant make them all.01/16/2011 at 7:36 pm #1941964Unfortunately I’m backing out of coordinating this event. I’ve made numerous phone calls and have continually been told one or more of the following:
1) There’s a $100 – $200 charge for a room for a large group. Waived at many places if we order that much in food.
2) We don’t want 20 – 50 people where people will be coming / going throughout a set timeframe.
3) With a group that side we’d like you to order from an “catering” menu.Maybe I was just ignorant going into this, but I figured many pizza, bar & grill, etc. type establishments would love to get the business is these less than perfect economic times. I tried to explain that it was going to be very laid back and people would be coming / going during a set time frame, but that seemed to scare more than convince.
I certainly thank Zuma for the offer to make this a WGA sponsored event, but at this time life’s priorities are telling me to quit pounding my head on the wall and move on.
