Well my trusty blue Legend finally pooped out. I’m looking at a Legend CX. I have MapSource MetroGuide and wondering if it will work with the CX.
Any help would certainly be appreciated.07/17/2007 at 9:28 pm #1877154Hi-
I had switched last year and was using mapsource (metroguide V5) It still works. HOWEVER, if you are wanting to use autorouting, metroguide won’t do it. You have to go to City Navigator (they just released V8). It works well. But, to your initial question, yes metroguide or even the topos will work.07/17/2007 at 9:55 pm #1877155@kent1915 wrote:

That’s not exactly true…you can use “Img2gps” which is free and will convert your metroguide maps to routeable images in the GPS. I use it and it works fine (however I use it in the GPS60cx but I think it should work in yours as well) ….but if your software is old you may as well just get the upgraded City Navigator. My Metroguide software is a few years old and as such I do not have many of the newer roads on my mapset……..
07/18/2007 at 12:04 am #1877156Okay, let me rephrase… I (this should be a bold I) cannot get autorouting to work on my old and as a result purchased Citi Navigator v.8 That better? 😯 Regardless, I like the auto routing feature!
07/18/2007 at 12:47 am #1877157I guess I got a bit side tracked….I don’t believe the Legend CX will auto route anyway. To be honest I’m not sure if Metroguide will work in the new LegendCX though I’m guessing it would…but again if your software is Metroguide v6 (or older) it is pretty old and you may want to think about updating anyway….
07/18/2007 at 1:46 am #1877158yes the legendCX will autoroute, just like my legendC and vistaCX. metroguide V5 should work fine, I have tried metroguide 6 & 7 without any issues.
The Snail, it sounds like you are just looking at a legendCX, you do know garmin just released the legendHCX right? it cost the same as the legendCX and has all the same features, but has a newer chipset that is suppose to be as good as the sirfIII chipset in the 60csx model.

I stand corrected…it wasn’t clear to me on the website whether it did or not and my Legend (old style) doesn’t auto route…..

Truth be told I’d buy another Legend if it didn’t connect with a serial cable.
I purchased a serial to USB conversion cable when I bought our new laptop and the connection kept getting dropped making downloading waypoints a time consuming hit or miss chore.BTW, the street price on the HCX looks to be about $50 higher than the CX and doesn’t seem to come with a SD card. Nice looking unit though.
Thanks again everyone.
07/18/2007 at 8:36 pm #1877161Odd the MSRP is the same for both… Linkey
REI has it for the same as well: Linky
If your only issue is the Micro SD card you can get a 1 gig card at New Egg for about $13 bucks (shipped)…..and that also includes the adapter for using the card in larger devises.

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=145&compare=compare&compareProduct=327&compareProduct=8701I believe what is happening is the same thing that happened when the Cx versions came out & replaced C model etrexes…. they sold both for awhile to get rid of old stock but will discontinue the CX which will be replaced by the HCX.
I see a few people on the GC.com forum have already got their HCX models, though most places are saying 18-24th of this month they will ship. I got a vistaCX a few months back as a backup to our 60cx, now I’m debating if I should replace it with an HCX model. guess I could always sell our VistaCX cheap. -
