I am once again working on a little update for our website and I’m thinking about making available our master .LOC file of ~2800 waypoints of caches in Wisconsin and the surrounding states. My question is, would this be in violation of some geocaching.com copyright? If so, what if I would save it in another format like .CSV? I assume not, but I will hold off on posting them for now.
Thanks,
Nick

The .loc file is not owned by geocaching.com, but rather by Topografix. There would be no problem in offering .loc files.
The cache data in that .loc file however is the property of geocaching.com. Jeremy has come out and stated that while the caches belong to their owners, all the data to be found in his database is his property.
In all likelyhood he would have no problem with it since you are not selling it, and since he himself makes the same data available at no cost you are not cutting into his sales. You might just want to run it past him though.
Note: DO NOT include any Member Only caches in the waypoints.
I assume that Jeremy recieves a lot of e-mail, but how long do you suppose it would take for him to reply to my question concerning this?
I think maybe i’m just a little impatient for a response… but I thought i’d ask anyways hehe
