I had never been able to find any of these elusive and durable containers. Leave it to the missus to notice the JC Penny flyer that has mixed sets on sale. I’m sure there was no other reason she wanted to go shopping. Picked up 2 16-piece sets. (Yes the lids count as a separate piece 🙄 ) So if you need them and don’t know where to find them, there’s a place.
On the Left Side of the Road...01/03/2010 at 12:08 am #1919505I have found them at Target, too. Also the W-store, though I usually shop Target or ShopKo before heading here.
I don’t believe the Penneys by us has a housewares department, though. Wonder if we could place a shipping free order from the store? I like the smaller lock and locks for my letterbox hybrids.
01/03/2010 at 12:13 am #1919506I guess I gotta shop somewhere other than Fleet Farm! 😳
Nah….
Anyway it’s a nice assortment and the price is right.
On the Left Side of the Road...01/03/2010 at 12:16 am #1919507I found the generic equivalents to the lock and locks at the discount stores, but never thought to check the JCP like places. Thanks for the heads up. Maybe I’ll check it out tomorrow.
Edit to add: Fleet Farm is a GREAT store! I like shopping there.

01/03/2010 at 12:41 am #1919509I’ve found standard Lock & Locks for $1 each (includes cover) at the dollar store on the frontage road in Oshkosh. I believe it’s “Dollar General” but if I have the wrong name someone feel free to correct it.

“Genuine” or knock-offs? Hinge durability tends to be not real great on the latter.
On the Left Side of the Road...01/03/2010 at 1:46 am #1919511I’ve grabbed a few at Pick ‘n Save that are watertight lock ‘n locks. The fam supplies us with plenty of pill bottles!

They were knock- offs but still high quality. They were a brand name I recognized but for the life of me can’t think of what it was. I have checked at 5 different Dollar Generals and it doesn’t look like they carry them anymore. They do have new brand. They are a bit more money but I don’t like them cuz they all have a steam vent built into the top.
Went found my last one. Farberware Classic Serries-1.9 cups. $1.50 a piece. They were also made in the USA.

I didn’t realize there was a difference. Let me double check and I’ll post back here.

These were a great size and have never had a problem with the hinges other than not being lab proof. 🙄01/03/2010 at 4:01 am #1919515Flipping channels tonight trying to find something decent on and saw that QVC was selling 12 for $21.97 today, almost had the wife order them but wasn’t sure if they were true lock and locks.
01/10/2010 at 12:17 pm #1919516I was at WalMart a few days ago looking for such a container.
Of course I didnt find and Lock&Locks (you already knew that) but what I DID find, were some waterproof boxes over in the camping isle. They are a clear plastic which the manufacture claims to be shatterproof.
2 hinges, 2 latches, and a rubber, watertight seal not unlike an L&L container. The downside to these containers is that they’re $10 each.
01/11/2010 at 1:25 pm #1919517The Dollar Tree store CJ mentioned does have them, but they are pretty flimsy compared to the real thing. As J&L mentioned, the Oshkosh South Pick & Save does carry the durable ones. I think the Oshkosh Festival does, too. Might want to check them out in your area.
01/11/2010 at 1:36 pm #1919518I too have seen the “real” lock / locks and they appear more durable. I think it becomes preference and/or cost/benefit ratio. At $1 each you can replace a few of these for the same price as the heavy duty version.
