Recently why going through logs of some caches I noticed that the owner of the cache had logged his own cache as a find. What is your opinion on doing this? My opinion it shouldn’t be allowed.

There are lots of reasons why this could happen…for example:

    1. I logged my Chirp Cache in West Bend because I did not place the physical cache ( I did the write-up and programing of the Chirp devise) while another cacher who I adopted the listing out to hid the cache.

    2. I logged a few of my own EarthCaches after I adopted them out to other cachers. I visited those sites and wanted them to get off my closest caches list; other listings I wrote up and adopted out where I have not personally visited I have not logged as a find.

There are many reasons why a cache owner might log their own cache…but in the end it is still a game and folks interpret the rules differently. There are lots of cachers who play in lots of different ways…what I may call cheating others may call creative logging practices…or better yet remind us to “get over ourselves.”

…as a side note, some of the elitist, purist attitudes expressed here have chased away several fellow geocachers…just food for thought.

I think LB7 hit this one on the head. If you adopted a cache you already found, fine.
if you adopt it out and then log it, fine.
if you “find” it and Own it concurrently, it should not be allowed.
I don’t think there is any way to police this or that it should be policed at all, as LB7 says, people will play the game how they want to. Only if Groundspeak makes it impossible to log your own caches as finds would this be resolved.

oh, yeah, forgot to add the IMO.

I’ve only hidden once cache and haven’t done this. I also don’t live in a cache heavy area. Obviously for GPX you can exclude your own caches in a PQ but if someone lives in a cache rich area like West Bend perhaps having those extra smilies on the screen of a Smartphone makes it easier to concentrate on other icons. I realize this saves all of 2 minutes but ya never know…

I have seen many new cachers write notes on their hides, but click found it unknowingly. There is one cache in Milwaukee who has found his own cache 20 times by doing that. There are no rules or regulations so who cares. In the end the only prize is whatever type of satisfaction you get from geocaching.

Falls under, Temps, Puzzles, and nanos. Don’t like, don’t do them.
It a game that peopel can play however they want. Indivdual Stats are just that. Indivdual. If you don’t like soemones stats, then don’t look at them. Their for personal enjoyment cuz they are only important to one person.

I’ve posted “Found it” logs on caches I have adopted out and Events that we have hosted (for an accurate count on Attendance). For the Adopted out, I do Maintenance pre-Adoption, so I guess I found it then! 😀

Who ARE you and what have you done with GR?

But I agree. Just doesn’t matter.

I’ll admit I was a little tempted when working on the EarthCache Masters to log my own EC’s. But I just couldn’t get myself to do it. I’ll probably be tempted again when I am close to getting to the next level…

Logging your own caches does not meet the req for EarthCache Masters program.

      From the EarthCache website:

Please note that you can not claim Earthcaches that you have personally developed as a “logged Earthcache”.

Oh I know, I was going to be sneaky and change them to our family’s profile. But like I said, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

And on a related note, I see you just posted a new EC. Hooray! I’m going to try and go get it soon.

🙂 That is the first I have put out in about 2 years. I just thought the formation of the lake being different from others in the area was interesting. I’ve had that one on the back-burner for a few years now.
      😳 …SORRY FOR THE OFF TOPIC. 😳

I personally have a few caches that I own that I have logged, but there are all caches that I have adopted from Lil Otter, and found them long before I was the owner of them, For caches that I have adopted out, I guess I would not feel right logging one of them, after all it was my hide at one time.

As long as you don’t log an owned cache in a terrace.
