Current Lonely Cache standings:
seldom|seen 24
zuma! 8
Trekkin’ and Birdin’ 3
Sagasu 5Looks like Dave is ….
1. Running out of steam.
2. Running out of caches.
3. Running out of gas.
4. All three of the above.Congratulations, Dave, for allowing someone else to be high score for the month!
06/16/2008 at 1:00 pm #1890894I think Dave just hasn’t submitted his latest reports, is all. I heard he gave himself a nice Father’s Day gift of caching in a Lonely Cache rich area!
We will always be the bridesmaids in this game. Just don’t have the drive to drive all over, LOL.

LOL, Marc how can you be so naive? Dave was out all weekend getting Lonely Caches and will no doubt give Alex a run for his money this month. The rest of us will just plug along and watch from the rear.
Keep On, Keeping On Dave.

06/16/2008 at 2:29 pm #1890896I can tell you that the numbers will be shifting rather soon.
However, it appears that alex is prepared to win this month 🙂 (or he is pushing dave to keel over trying)
No longer are these guys finding lonely caches in the “cache-rich” fox valley…. They are venturing far from these parts… I mention this because I would figure that many have thought they didn’t have a chance against cachers in “other parts of the state” because of the quantities of caches in certain areas.
During the 2nd month of each cycle, this no longer applies (the close one’s on the list have been scored – be it revisits, or otherwise) and these 2 must venture further away (and further into the woods) where each lonely find is “earned” by long hikes, kayaking, excessive gas prices, long days on the road, etc.
It’s no longer about living in a “cache-rich” area of the state. It’s now more about perseverence, time, and money. Which I have none of the 3…
I am a mere spectator in this event now.

06/16/2008 at 5:07 pm #1890897I just did a quick check, and have found at least six caches in the past two weeks that would qualify, but most didn’t make the bookmark list. There must be a lot of lonely caches in the state.
Keep up the good work guys!06/16/2008 at 5:18 pm #1890898Since Marc was so kind as to start a thread, I do need to announce the winner for May was Sagasu, winning a 2007 WI Geocoin, donated by Jeremy. For June, the prize will be a 2005 WI geocoin, donated by Jeremy as well. Keep up the good work, guys. The next list will probably be much shorter as it seems most of the really old stuff has either been replaced, archived, or just found, which was the whole point.

Most certainly going to be a down to the wire on the month.
Fortunately Sagasu’s latest run wasn’t his last as early in the day, I think he said the second cache, the recent rainfall caused the rocks to be a bit slick and he went down. A few bumps and some nice bruises and he was off again. I am sure he is feeling the effects today but it was a good trip.As the others, I will continue to pace myself to maintain the SHOW spot if things don’t change too much. I am feeling Trekkin’ and Birdin’ breathing down my neck as I have no lonely cache finds this month and not sure if a run will happen before the end of June. Time will tell.
By no means should the obsessive compulsive behavior of our LCG leaders deter the rest of us from having fun with it. 😀

06/18/2008 at 10:49 pm #1890900The real prize in searching for these hasn’t been the points, but the places they bring us. We looked at one with zuma and Robin the other night and just wished we had an inner tube to get to it. It’s on the Apple River, but the river was running even too fast for Trekkin’, who lately will cross most anything in search of a find! Even HE was intimidated, so what does that say, LOL?
These days, we have mostly looked to see what might be nearby as we travel for other caching adventures. Some we’ve been able to get, others have just been too out of reach. Glad there are folks like Dave and s|s to pick up our slack!
06/24/2008 at 3:10 pm #1890901I’ll admit that this game has got me hooked. For many many reasons, a few of which are:
1. I get to go to and see some great caches that few others are getting to because of the challenge involved. That challenge gets me some exercise and a feeling of accomplishment when I make the find.
2. I get to push my geocaching buddy to the limits, a guy who might not have continued in the sport if it weren’t for his finding a few of mine very early in his geocaching career. And look where he is now. Of late, I seem to be pushing him too hard, but he has vowed to keep his 300 point all-time lead and I have vowed to stay close behind.
3. All of us playing the game get the opportunity, If we wish to take it, to make contact with fellow cachers around the state to offer a helping hand in cache maintenance. I know what it is like to have a cache 100 miles away that can be difficult to get to when it’s needed. The game helps make connections which in some cases results in new Trailbosses for caches that need them.
4. And most importantly, caches are being maintained, upgraded, replaced, or archived and all of that is good for the overall condition of caches in the State and the whole point of the game.
So, I keep looking for my opportunities to play. The wife does not condone my geocaching and I therefore have to sneak them in on trips that are for other purposes. A the beginning of the June, I went on my annual fishing trip with father, uncle, brothers, son and nephews. I fished during the day and after everyone else went to bed, cached like crazy until dawn. The final tally was 2 hours sleep, 23 hours caching (22 finds) and 27 hours driving/fishing/camping for a total of 53 hours.
Now you have a better idea of how hooked I am on the LCG and what I will do to keep catching up to Dave.

Just make sure that the “lonely cache game” does not turn into the “lonely cacher game” 🙂
