Look what just popped up on eBay – an unactivated 2010 vintage WGA state-shaped geocoin and a 2005 vintage Wisconsin Coulee region non-trackable. The Coulee region coin was made back in the day before geocoins with tracking numbers became more popular. The auction ends 11-18-2017.
11/15/2017 at 9:26 am #2056759Can anyone give me more about the history of that Coulee region coin? Just curious.
11/15/2017 at 12:52 pm #2056761Interesting . . .
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

11/16/2017 at 7:11 am #2056771I posted about this on the Coulee Region FB group so maybe someone over there may have some insight . . .

“Paul Kohlmeier and anyone else who may be interested in some local Geocaching History. Regarding the Wisconsin Coulee Region Cachers Coin you bid on and won recently on Ebay, here is what I remember about the original Wisconsin Coulee Region Cachers and this particular coin/token: The original Wisconsin Coulee Region Cachers were an active group of cachers from the area that formed a team calling themselves The Wisconsin Coulee Region Cachers, long before this Face Book Group was created. To my knowledge the group never logged any finds, they just registered with GroundSpeak as a team back in 2005 to encourage interest in Geocaching in the greater Coulee Region, and to attempt to encourage anyone who placed a Geocache, to take the time to make it a quality cache by placing it in an interesting location. Some of the members established individual accounts with GroundSpeak, and those members did log their finds, place cache hides and hosted at least one even in Wildcat Mountain State Park. I don’t believe any of the original members are still active. I have one of these non-tractable coins in my collection. In fact, it was the first piece of swag I ever took from a Geocache. I retrieved from a local cache sometime in 2005 or early 2006 before Birdin’ and I set up an account to start logging our finds.”

”This is from the Wisconsin Coulee Region Cachers Profile: We are a small group of cachers that were brought together by our love of geocaching and our hopes to share it with others. We try to get together once a month to talk about our adventures or to go caching. We are having our first event at the Wildcat Mountain State Park on Saturday, April 22, 2006.

** Biography **
What is the Coulee Region? The Coulee Region gets its name from the valley of the non-glaciated area known as the “driftless area”. During the great ice ages, all three continental glacier sheets passed it by. Ancient receding rivers cut valleys, leaving a hilly topography.
Mission: The members of the Wisconsin Coulee Region Cachers are dedicated to the preservation and betterment of caches in the Coulee Region.”

“M&M Cacher I believe were the ones who designed the coin and I know they were the ones that held the event in Wildcat Mountain State Park. If I’m not mistaken M&M Cacher had a coin business at the time. We met them at the WGA Fall Picnic in 2007 and did some caching in the park with them, but I can’t recall their names. We found all but a few of their cache hides in the Ontario, WI area. They are still semi-active and have a couple of active caches in Wildcat SP. In fact, they had most of the hides in the park before the WGA event was held there. They all had cat related names in the title. I also seem to recall that Skrek and Fiona were involved with them as well. Over the past few years, I’ve been making it a point to write team names on a list along with their real names in order to remember who they are. I am surprised at how many have passed away.”

02/12/2018 at 4:02 pm #2057860That WGA coin must have had no takers when you saw it, because I think it’s the one I just won! I’m exited! Makes up for the WGA TB tag that most likely melted in the southern CA fires back in October.
02/12/2018 at 8:29 pm #2057864Congrats Cami, that’s a hard TB to acquire, and the best one ever!
02/13/2018 at 3:35 pm #2057876Thanks! The cow just popped up by the same seller, but the bidding quickly went beyond what I was willing to pay. Coming late to the geocaching party can get expensive in the attempt to keep up with everyone who was into it before it was cool!
