We are at 999 finds. Any suggestions for a memorable find for 1000? Sawyer, Rusk, Barron, Chippewa Co, or a county close by…
10/08/2011 at 1:51 am #1953766I think you were just up that way, but Lost Falls would have been a great choice. I would think that there has to be some awesome cache in Chippewa County. Email Zuma for some suggestions.
10/08/2011 at 2:22 am #1953767Can you tell me where Lost Falls is?
10/08/2011 at 2:34 am #1953768GCNMJF — just south of Cornucopia, which is on Lake Superior — northern Bayfield County
Good luck on the milestone, wherever it may be!

First my top 2 suggestions that fit the bill of what you want:
GC11V6N IAT – The Lost Kettle – This is the closest great unfound by you cache near you. If you do this one, do the other 2 in the series as well, for a great day of hiking the IAT near Cornell.
GC18E2 Slough Gundy – A great walk along a slough of the Flambeau River, onto an island in the river. With low water in fall, you can get there with dry feet this fall.
The rest of theres are in no particular order, but are other nearby caches that would be worthy of a milestone:
GC112D Three Bad Ribs – A great multi at Rib Mountain which will take about 3 hours to hike with your kids, with great views and lots of fun climbing on the rocks. Near Wausau.
GC1GN42 KSpud Finds 1000 – A climb up into an isolated ravine with an Earthcache on the way at the Weeping Wall. Near Menomonie.
GC29H25 Trapper Cabin Series – About a mile or so down a logging road with caches along the way, with a forgotten old cabin at the end. North of Hayward.
GC29EMA Chapter 5: Camocaches Big Brother – A great walk along a river in the woods. Near Antigo.
GC1ZC48 Pokin Around the Falls – A walk along the Ice Age trail near Grandfather Falls. Near Merrill.
GC1RG0Q A Pirate’s View – A short walk in the woods to a creative multi. Near Spooner,
GCG5V7 Morgan Falls – A nice level hike in the woods to a small waterfalls, but one of the prettiest in the state. For more adventure, continue on to St Peters Dome. North of Hayward.
GC1DG32 Devil’s Gate – A visit to Copper Falls, one of the most spectacular falls in Wisconsin.
GC1DC9T Levis Mound Walk – A longish walk up a hill, along cross country ski trails, with a very cool natural arch formation that few get to see. Near Neillsville.
GCWXH4 Wildcat Mound – Another of the great mounds in Jackson County. Great views from this one and a fun hike. Near Neillsville.
GCTRRE A Moment Of Zen – Nice walk to a great view. Near Barron.
GC10G67 Felsenmeer Ridge – Longish walk on ski trails to a unique geological feature. Be sure to get the pipestone caches on the way back. This one is quite close to you as well.
GC1XETM Repump Up The Punch – A great cache in the Devils Punchbowl, and a lot of fun.
Have fun,
zuma

10/16/2011 at 4:22 am #1953771Attempted Slough Gundy today but the water was high and my feet and pants got wet. Could not safely cross today. Went down river to make Little Falls the 1000 cache. The water was really high and fast today so the falls was very neat too. Great area and we enjoyed it a lot. Will keep your suggestions though so we can hit the other highlights another time. Thanks!

Yeah, I saw your log. It trully is a great cache, one of my all time favs, and I am sure when you try it again in lower water the find will be a little less adventure packed. Still, it was a pretty fun adventure, I hope.
