03/07/2011 at 7:14 pm #1944236I don’t have one for you but I will tell you that last summer I bought one off of Craigslist. Have you used that site before? I got a really nice one that hadn’t been used too much for more than half the original price. At that time there were plenty listed, you just have to check diligently until the right model comes up. Good luck!

03/08/2011 at 3:58 am #1944239So far all I have come up with is wall mart. Craigslist does not have anything of great value I have seen some but they are same price as new ones. But I will keep looking. Had to see if there was any Cachers that might have one in there garage that they might not need or use anymore. but I will still see what people come up with.
03/10/2011 at 4:34 am #1944240last summer i bought racks for me and my gf’s car.
mine is 02 grand prix gtp 2dr 40th anniversary
hers is 03 alero 2dr
she didnt mind putting a rack on her paint.
i would have nothing to do with that. so i ended up with a hitch and rack.

went with class 2 as i wasnt sure what i was gonna do for a rack and i didnt want to be sorry later for going cheap. install was easy. took about 90 minutes. still cannot believe i put a hitch on my car, but that is ok. beats having something on the paint and well it works fine. since i live in IA and ride a bicycle it is important to be able to take bike with me.
i looked at alot of 2+ racks. Thule has some nice ones but you also pay for them. i liked the convertable part of some of them. where they were 2 and you could add 2 to them. but that was alot of coin and i just wasnt willing to spend that. the thules are also pretty heavy. since this was going on my car and i already added 50 or so with the hitch i didnt want to add any more weight then necessary.
hollywood was recomended by the local mtn bikers as they are cheaper then thule and just as functional.
i wanted one that would hold the bikes from the bottom. not one that the bikes dangled from a pole sticking out. i didnt want to have the bikes swinging in the air to rub on the back of the car. i was told this can be fixed with a strap from tire to frame, but again i didnt want to do that.
i wanted one that the bike tires were supported.
these looked nice, but again spendy. though they were lighter then many others out there. http://www.kuatinnovations.com/in the end i went with Saris. after i had it narrowed down i looked at specs as well as where they were made. the saris thelma was light! as in 26 lbs or so i think. which is about half of the thule rack i was looking at as well as about 2/3 the cost. this is for a rack that holds 3 bikes and is 1 1/4″ hitch mountable as that is what i can get for my car.
and saris is made in WI. Madison if i remember correctly.
the thelma is an aluminum frame in plastic to hold the wheel.
a little info i had to deal with is when i ordered last summer they were introducing a new model that would hold 29″ bikes. and that is what i ordered not knowing this was new and that the old one was on its way out. so i ended up waiting for the rack. after awhile the guy asked what size bike i had? i told him 26″. he said well if you are ok wiht it and do not plan on getting a 29″ bike we can get you into the old model for less money. so he explaiined the differences. i said sure lets do that. so i saved money and got it alot sooner as the new one was hot and hard to keep on the shelf.she got http://www.orsracksdirect.com/saris-bones-3-bike-trunk-rack-pink.html
i got http://www.orsracksdirect.com/saris-thelma-3-bike-hitch-rack-4239.html
also got the locking hitch pin and locking cable.Monty
