Here’s the statement that got me…..”elderly couple?”

      They’re 65 and 67!!!! Not elderly!!!

Seriously, interesting article and glad to hear they were found and safe.

Turn on GPS, turn off brain.

So much easier to blame others for one’s own stupidity.

I guess we won’t be meeting them on the trail any time soon.

And BTW, I’m 62 and consider myself young.

One’s gotta learn to use common sense when using a GPS. Sure my Nuvi has given me bad directions on more than one occasion, but that’s why I have the old fashioned paper map as a back up if it doesn’t feel right where I’m going.

There have been some iffy roads our gps has taken us down….but if we dont think our vehicle can make it we use the old fashion way, we walk for a bit and check out the road. Then we may continue to drive it or not.

Just like everyone else said just because you have a gps on….doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use common sense.

If snow is too deep, don’t drive it.

And we also have a paper map handy just in case

We often don’t go the direction the Nuvi tells us… just to hear her “recalculate” we think she get an attitude if she has to recalculate more than 3 times in 10 minutes.

I knew better than to follow the autorouting down the bike trail in Kendall even though the gps kept telling me to turn. I knew the trail was the easiest way to get to the cache as that was the shortest route, but I didn’t think the bicyclists would appreciate it.

As cachers we know you can’t trust those little devices… they lie. Maybe the disclaimer on them should read this machine lies often, it is up to you to figure out when. Might keep a few more on their toes.
