I’ll bet the fancy title of this topic caught your eye, HUH? No? Well, read on.
So, I am sitting here on this rainy afternoon and come up with the idea of tryng to get the found logs from Palm’s Cachemate into GSAK.

If I haven’t lost you, yet, will read on.

Regarding the above, I did have this whole thing working before I updated my PALM PDA. One click of a button on GSAK and Voila, all found geocaches were automatically logged on the Geocaching web site.

Well, I updated from Handspring to Palm/TX and somehow everything got lost.

So, I need to go back…way way back…to step one. Getting the found logs from PALM cachemate to GSAK on my PC. Yes, I have all the latest Cachemate as well as the most recent update of GSAK.

Step One. I can not get the palm to sync the file ‘DefaultItems-cMat’ into the Palm backup folder on my pc. That’s step one.

I have used FileZ to change the attribute of DefaultItems to backup when syning. Nut it doesn’t.

How about a suggestion of how to get the file ‘DefaultItems-cMat’ to sync with my palm?

Please feel free to respond here or email PM

Oh, the reward? All of the trade items from Menomonee Falls Lime Kiln Geocache.

Randy, I moved this topic to the “Help” forum.

Are you sure that CacheMate is actually synching… do you see something like “Synchronizing CacheMate” pop up on the Palm and/or PC? This would occur at the very end of the Hotsync.

If it is synching, you may be looking at the wrong file. Maybe you changed your device “name” or the CacheMate database name when moving to the Tx so the PDB file is now in a different place? Search for an alternate PDB file in the same general area (Program Files->Palm…). Or change something in CacheMate on the Palm, do a sync, and then search your entire hard drive for PDB files changed today and you should find it.

If it is not synching, check the settings for the Backup conduit in the HotSync manager. You might also want to delete the PDB file (save a copy somewhere), which should force the Backup conduit to grab it from the Palm.

Here is a link to a Groundspeak forum topic about the same subject… it sounds like you have already tried some of the stuff people have suggested.

Uisng FileZ I see that the last time Cachemate was ‘backed up was 4/1/06. It was last modified 3/19/06. So, The file, cachemate, was not backed up. When I look at the Synch log I also see that cachemate was not synced.

So, it would appear that I need to get Cachemate to sync.

The device name has not changed. it is still rpaske. I am looking at the correct file in C:Program FilesPalmrpaskeBackup

So, I need to force Cachemate to sync. I’ll work on that!

Hmmm, I don’t know what is worse: looking for a micro in a pile of rocks or trying to figure out how to force Palm cachemate to sync with pc.

At any rate, I am in the middle of this and really need to know how to force the sync of cachemate to the pc.

I have used a file called fileZ on the palm to set cachemate and defaultItems to backup with the next sync.

The Snyc preference on the palm shows that cachemate is set to be backup.

The pc palm desktop is set to accept syncs into the palm folder under my name.

So, everything looks like it should work. But…..it doesn’t.

I am hoping for a nice day tomorrow. Then I’ll go geocaching. I don;t plan on looking for micros in rocks or piles of bark either!

First, check to see that the Backup conduit in the Hotsync Manager is set to “handheld overwrites desktop”. You may have switched this to “desktop overwrites handheld” to get your apps and settings transfered to the new Tx.

    If this is set properly….

How critical is the CacheMate information on your Palm? Can it be erased?

If you can live without it, I would remove CacheMate and the CacheMate database file from the Palm, and remove the database file from your PC. Put CacheMate (the program PRC file) back on the Palm, create a new database in CacheMate, and import some information.

With this fresh install, everything should be set to do a sync/backup the CacheMate database file.

Yes, I thought I would go with the reinstall of cachemate to the palm as well. As always, I thought there may be an easier way. I have spent enough time on trying to find the ‘quick’ way. Thanks for your assistance.

A senior moment! and then a Ah-HA moment!
So, not wanting to let this syncing thing go, on a lark, I relooked at the Sync settings on my pc. It turns out that the ‘backup’ conduit had been set to do nothing. and, that’s what it did—nothing.

Well, when I set it to the palm over rights the desktop and then synced the Palm everything was backed up, even the default items.

    So there ya go!

Now, If I could just find geocaches in a bunch of rocks this easy!
