Congrats to you Uncle Fun for sneaking in there to be FTF. Thanks for your message this morning. I think I was 6th finder and there was still a couple of things left to take.
08/28/2004 at 10:56 pm #1737486We first saw this contest on Friday, and searched for two hours. We were within 25 feet of the location yesterday. Came in at 8:45am with Stampers to be fifth- No pen!!! So we made WW in mud and bark. LOL
08/29/2004 at 1:57 am #1737487We decided to take a drive from Madison into Milwaukee to see if we could find it as it seemed only 7 finders found it by 1PM today. We arrived onsite and found it around 3:30PM. We’re kind of confused as to how many found it before us. Because we didn’t find a ‘coupon’, atleast that we think we assume the logs in the log book were contained multiple people. Anyone have a picture of what the coupon thing looks like? Or what the first finder all found in it?
It’s in a great park. A lot of people were near by and had us scrambling (literally) up a very high sand ‘cliff’ in hopes of finding it a head of anyone that may be searching Didn’t run into anyone though.
Took some time to find some near by caches too. One that I think we’re going to nominate as a cache of the month
08/29/2004 at 3:49 am #1737488I didn’t have a pen but found an old business card in my wallet to substitute for signing the log. I know as least 2 others that attempted to sign using some variation of a stick and mud. I already have my coupon in the mail. Last year, several first finders got new gps units, and some of the non-first finders that mailed in their coupon got a Magellan hat. It will be interesting to see what every one gets this year.
Congratulations Uncle Fun!!
08/29/2004 at 7:17 am #1737489Wow, we just looked at what is in the possible awards for grand prizes and what the first finders of the previous missions this year are set to recieve. It’s hard to believe the prices that Magellan is giving away with this. We didn’t know that this contest was around last year. Hope to see more of these
Garmin needs to kick it in gear and start competing with contests
It was well worth the drive and climb
Congratulations to Uncle_Fun on being the FTF on this.

Congrats to everyone who made it to Milwaukee yesterday. Team Badger would have beat you there but we decided to repel down the side of a bluff instead.

09/29/2004 at 10:49 pm #1737494I came home this evening and found a mystery package at my door. It was the Magellan prize package!!
I was like a kid a Christmas as I tore it open to reveal the goods.
1. Woodalls 04′ Tenting Campground directory. 500 pages of valuable data!
2. A years subscription to ATV Sport Magazine. Cool stuff!
3. A 3-way light with flourescent and regular lamps + an amber flasher.
4. 1 pair of cheesy Magellan Sunglasses.
Not bad for being well behind the first finders! Thanks to the WGA members that make me check out the Magellan contest!
10/15/2004 at 12:23 am #1737495My Magellan package arrived today ..
Seems I got pretty much the same package as the others .. last years Tent Campground directory, a years subscription to a motorcyle magazine, the $1 store flashlight and see behind you sunglasses.
Cheesy! And, definitely not worth the time and effort we put in to the contest.

Okay, while I agree that it’s a cheesy thing to get, weren’t you at least a little happy about the game itself? It kind of put a new twist on the whole caching concept. And what fun it was to see all those people scouring an area just before the final co-ords were listed. Besides that…they didn’t really have to give anything to anyone…I don’t see where Garmin is doing any type of promotion like Magellan…just an opinion.
