Hi all! I figured while I was here looking around I would like to mention there is a new adventure in progress that Magellan is running.
There will be great prizes and lots of runner up’s for the lucky people that find the 31 caches that will be placed in the U.S.A.
Now I am not 100% sure if this will cover your state, but I sure hope so.
Magellan contacted us here at Navicache.com and asked if we would help with spreading the word as well as place some links for the event on our site.
So if you would like to learn more please be sure to check us out and look for the treasure hunt links!
I am also happy to say that navicache is now listed on the Magellan site within it’s Geocaching page.If this site would like a link on navicache.com please have the site owner contact me. I am working on a groups section to list all the active groups from around the world.
A logo would be nice if you use one.

Hmm, New York, Florida and it looks like California. Wisconsin should be next! Looks interesting, but there should be more skill required to determining the waypoint. As it is, anyone in the right place at the right time would be first finder. Hope they don’t list one here on a work day!
I like the idea. I hope it spurs a little geocaching competition between GPS makers. A little sponsorship of our up coming picnic event would be good too!!

If you can log onto the system. I can’t get to the individual caches as it keeps bumping me back to the log in screen. ERRRGGGGGGG.
Did you register? I had to do that first in order to get to the cache screen. It’s a good thing they didn’t ask for my brand of GPS. I would have been bumped!

WaukeshaIt looks like a chance at the big prize my be comming our way. The only problem is it looks like it will end during the week, but just the same lets hope for a wisconsin placement. As I’m in iowa with little hope of a cache near me you will have about a 5hr head start on me, but I’ll be driving fast. Good luck to all, hope one of my Geocaching family or friends gets the FTF. If you haven’t been checking the hides out, one was just found on the south side of Chicago. Some hints were given over the last few days and the coordinates were posted about evening rush hour time. Here’s hoping one for Wisconsin will be soon to come. I’ve got lots of vacation days left!
I’ve been following this pretty closly, and have noticed some trends that I’m afraid will end up looking bad for Geocaching on a whole; for instance the latest cache on the west coast had people acting all crazy, the find in Chicago had them out racing through rush-hour traffic, the one in Georgia had them entering a National park when it is supposed to be closed and caching is not normally allowed. They may have some kind of agreement made but it is not encouraging use of common sense or courtesy.
I hope Magellan reads the logs that people have posted as many concerns have been mentioned and need to be addressed, or it may make a bad name for our sport.
Team Kilroy was here!I have to agree, Team Kilroy. Personally, I don’t like geocaches that manipulate people by encouraging them to rush to find one. If the masses are rushing somewhere, I’ll head in the opposite direction.
I went here after the Chicagoland picnic. I think its a great idea. Now before anyone thinks that I’m inconsistant, this event is not a geocaching.com listed cache. If you want information about it, you have to go to Magellan’s website and register. Participants obviously are not interested in statistics of number of finds but instead in the adventure or prizes. I went for the adventure, knowing that the prizes have been dwindled down to maybe a few hat coupons remaining. While I did not find it due to a technical goof on my part, I’m looking forward to seeing one listed in Wisconsin soon.
This and other GPS adventure offshoots will no doubt rub with geocaching.com philosophy. It may also affect WGA work if something goes wrong and it is lumped with geocaching.com and it’s affiliates. However, Magellan appears to be paying geocaching.com something to advertise on it so I have to think that ”our” rules will be held to. Until something changes, I think it is a good series of events.

WaukeshaI’m not saying that this is a bad contest, I just hope Magellan reads what we as the Geocaching community are saying, and try to make this contest more fitting the ideals and expectations we Geocachers have come to expect. I’m not sure Magellan really knew what to expect from this experiment, but I’m hoping the results are better than they estimated and they decide to spend more money advertizing and supporting our sport to help it grow and gain acceptance.
Team Kilroy was here!I have been in close relationship with the people that have set this event up for a couple years now (though to be honest this event came out of the blue when they asked for my support and help)
Magellan is very interested in geocaching and are in the learning phase as to what is expected and also as to what could be of help.
I have asked them for several things some of which are changing software for GPSr to also include Geocaching icons (unfound and found) like what garmin has done. With luck this will be added.
The good thing is that Magellan knows about Geocaching and has excepted it as a lagit activity. The downside could be if they run with it and turn it very commercial.
I don’t think it has hit them as to the fact that most cachers want to keep the sport Non commercial.The Ad agency that put this together for them did most of the work and therefore might not have understood the concept of a mass run for a cache container in sensitive areas. I am sure this will be a learning curve for them in the future.
I am looking forard to seing how this runs to the end. =)
I was in the area today for work. Since I had the correct coordinates in the Garmin (cough cough)I decided to check it out. Still some hat coupons left. I took one and will fill out the questionaire. I hope that this helps Magellan evolve a GPS that will rival my Garmin V. If they make one with the V’s features but add some memory, I’d buy it.
Anyway, when I get the hat, I’ll probably put it in a container, hide it and put the coordinates on here so some Magellan owner can snatch the hat. What am I thinking??? It goes to the picnic as a door prize!
