Actually, it works well on every browser I have tested except IE 6.0. (Even IE 5 and 7 seem to work.) Of course, on dialup, there is a whole lot of data being pumped from Google Maps, so it will take a while. If you have IE 6.0, I have one suggestion: GET THE FREE UPGRADE! (or switch to Firefox, much faster, more extensible, and generally more robust!) Of course, if you are downloading IE on dialup, you probably need to start it and then come back the next day to install it.
03/03/2008 at 3:10 am #1885382Well, we run IE 7 and every time I try to load the map it locks up. Oh well.
03/03/2008 at 3:16 pm #1885383What I do is to just make a Pocket Q. off of the Bookmarked list. Then you can view it in Google maps. It has been working fine for me using IE7. Thanks Team Deejay for putting this together…even if we know who the win will be 🙂

Same thing here.
03/05/2008 at 6:42 pm #1885385Actually I did a test and it is not locking up on IE7. It just takes roughly 24 minutes to load all the stuff from Google. By contrast, Firefox takes around 10 seconds. Of course, speed isn’t everything. With IE, you get all the advanced security features missing in those other browsers….
For all you IE users, since you refuse to use a decent browser, I put together a reduced bandwidth version for you. Actually it has all the same info as the other map, but it uses icons loaded from my server instead of Google’s server and uses something called clusters to reduce the amount of graphics on any given page. When you load this map, cache dense areas will have a large compass rose symbol instead of the individual caches. As you zoom in, the individual caches will be displayed. This reduces the overall amount of graphic data transported over the network on any given view.
Before I give you the link, note that this page will take a MINIMUM of 4 minutes to load using an IE browser (approximately 5 seconds using Firefox.) Do not attempt to load this in IE while running Outlook or other mail clients, other browsers, front ends for external databases, or any other program which regularly polls your network. (All this is ok when loading it with Firefox.) Start the download and then WAIT. Do not touch anything until it finally loads. DO NOT attempt to use this with a dial up connection and IE. (Even Firefox doesn’t handle this real well; it is just too much data.)
The new file is located at this site.
Note that users of other browsers may like this version better as well. The cluster concept is pretty neat and reduces map clutter, plus the homebrew icons are bigger and a little more informative.
One other thing for you GSAK users: if you want to make maps like this, you need the MyGME3.0 macro for GSAK. You can get it here. If you don’t know how to use macros in GSAK, PM or email me and I will walk you through it.
03/05/2008 at 7:48 pm #1885386I switched to FireFox last night, and I am impressed. It’s not only faster with that map, but with EVERYTHING else as well.
I highly recommend it the switch from IE! Oh, and it’s free!!!
03/05/2008 at 8:04 pm #1885387Can both be use on a system? Would I have to delete IE? Cuz I use my “wife’s” computer and she hates when I add stuff.
03/05/2008 at 8:29 pm #1885388You can use both. In fact, my broker’s website just sucks wind on Firefox, but works great in IE, so I am often running both browsers at the same time. Also, with Firefox, you can install an add-in that lets you use IE to display certain websites within Firefox. I don’t bother with this for the brokerage, but Microsoft Mappoint links point to Live Local when accessed by IE, so I have that website set up as an “IE display site” within Firefox. Once you are running Firefox, you can get the “IE Tab” extension here.

I FULLY RETRACT MY PREVIOUS STATEMENT. I DO NOT, AND WILL NEVER RECOMEND FIREFOX TO ANYONE FOR ANY REASON.
Please see this thread
03/15/2008 at 12:04 pm #1885390Suggestion: include the archived caches on the Cache Rescue listing.
03/15/2008 at 2:38 pm #1885391Curious.
Took me 5 min. w/IE to load map.
Continued reading thread, pages turned slowly.
Read about Tsky’s problem, everything worked out, so loaded FF.
Took less than 5 min. to load FF, install, and pull map (about 25 sec. for map).
Had FF once when it was new, didn’t see any difference from IE. I can see clearly now. Thanks for the alternative. -
